Last february I spent 4 days in Palma de Mallorca and I went to the new Es Baluard museum, which is located in old castle walls. Very beautiful and mordern museum by the way.
Well, in one room there were a few works by Antoni Tāpies that impressed me much. Iīve never heard of him before, which is not so surprising as Iīm not so much into art that I would know many painter or artists.
But these paintings - donīt know which word suits best for his works, as there are not only paintings but also some collage-things on it - were really beautiful and quite interesting. I mean on the first look itīs either beautiful or not. But when I get more into it, it becomes interesting. Well, thatīs my way of looking at pictures in a museum
There was one painting called "Black with paper cross" that struck a chord with me. There were some schribbles in the middle of the painting through which the word "love" shines through. The background is totally black and in the left corner thereīs a beige tape-cross. Perhaps that description is a bit clumsy, but thatīs just the way I have it in mind.
The statement Tāpies wanted to make with it, is that behind a lot of bewilderments thereīs always love that comes through at the end. Unfortunately I canīt remember what he wanted to say with the cross in the corner.
Now I wanted to know if there are Tāpies fans here and if someone has a picture of that painting. I would love to see it again. I think Iīll buy me a book about his works soon.
Unfortunately I read today that I missed a Tāpies exhibition at the "Neues Museum" here in Nurnberg last year. But at that time I wasnīt aware of him yet.
PS: Does anyone know good websites about him? I just checked out that official Tāpies website.
