Art in Context : Discussion 7

This week's topic is a simple one -

Please post an image to illustrate your sentiments for Valentine's Day.

Looking forward to your replies

I've been, LaBlanca, and will surely go again next weekend; perhaps entering the park through the northern end where the populace and architecture are vastly different.

Back on topic. In 1838, the French writer George Sand and the Romantic artist Eugene Delacroix occupied adjacient studios. Sand and her lover the exiled composer Frederick Chopin sat for a portrait by Delacroix in the artist's crammed quarters. The painting was sunsequently slashed in half [after E.D.'s death] and sold to different collectors. One is currently in a museum, the other remains in private holdings.

On the occasion of Valentine's Day, let's join the writer and her muse

This image illustrates the delicious nature of despair in more ways than one; but that is just my opinion of it. Pretty much sums up my susceptibilities in a nutshell and the happenings in my life this past week leading up to Valentine's Day.

Thinking well how actually Valentine's Day is not celebrated here but since Bonita asked I started to think about the idea and an old image I've always liked is Ophelia from Sir John Everett Millais...The image is of course sad but yet strong and in my opinion loving.

I also like to add another in the same sense...Monet's "Camille Monet on her Death Bed" - 1879. A touching painting of his wife just befor she passed away.
