A Fleeting World : The Thread for Drawings, Prints & other Works on Paper

Nothing is permanent. That's the beauty of all works on paper.

Let's look at the cloud studies of John Constable (1776-1837)

Cloud Study, Hampstead, Tree at Right, oil on paper laid on board, 1821

Cloud Study: Horizon of Trees, oil on paper laid on board, 1821

Rainstorm over the Sea, oil on paper laid on canvas, ca.1824-28

Study of Clouds, (c.1822); 48 x 59 cm; oil on paper, laid on canvas

Cloud Study, 1822; Oil on paper laid on board
12 x 19 1/4 in (30.5 x 49 cm); Courtauld Institute Galleries, London

Study of Clouds, 1830, 19x23cm, watercolors
A late Constable. Records the skies over London after a passing storm

Camille Corot (French, 1796-1895), Le tombeau de Semiramis; Cliche-verre, 1854; Delteil 47

Cliches-verres are drawn with a needle on a glass plate coated with an opaque ground from which positive photographic prints are made on sensitized paper as from an ordinary negative; leaving a most unusual texture.

A lithograph from my most favourite 20th Century artist, Joseph Beuys who based this on a series of drawings done with animal blood.

The following are engravings after original drawings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder (Netherlandish, 1525/30–1569) which I'd like to use as illustrations to the world we live in today -

The Ass in School

and

The Battle about Money
