Museum & Gallery Exhibitions

Feel free to list current exhibitions of your local art institutions in this thread.

I'm also interested to learn more about the museums [musea] and galleries in your city/country -

1. Are most museums in your city/country admission free?

2. Which are your favourite museums and galleries?

3. Tell us about an exhibition that fascinated or repelled you.

1. Are most museums in your city/country admission free?
No, there is an entrance fee that depends from museum to museum. In Antwerp the most interesting exhibitions are in galleries though and they are free.

2. Which are your favourite museums and galleries?
My favourite is Het Stedelijk in Amsterdam, but since that is closed for renovation for a couple of years: SMAK in Gent

3. Tell us about an exhibition that fascinated or repelled you.
Last one I saw was in the dark cave-like room next to het Zuiderpershuis (a former presshouse now a bar, small theatre/concerthall), in Antwerp. Paintings that reminded a bit of Francis Bacon's work and although I can't even remember the artist's name I liked it a lot.

1. Only on the last Wednesday of the month or after 6 PM.
2. I like best the Palace of the Legion of Honor. It doesn't have that great of a collection, but its like my old friend that I know very well. before the earthquake it used to get very good travelling shows (ie. Munch, Lalique, an excellent one on Russian theatre sets etc.) , and maybe will again. The MOMA isn't worth whatever incredibly high rate they charge to get in. Our rich people seem to send their endowments to NYC and LA rather than to the city they live in. Sad. The Fraenkel Gallery always has top notch exibitions in the realm of photography.
3. I saw Jay DeFeo's painting "The Rose" in an exibition a while ago, and it is really a beautiful work of art. Everybody should see Nan Goldin do her Balled of Sexual Dependancy at least once. And when I was in Amsterdam I saw a showing of more or less the complete works of Dante Gabriel Rossetti at the Van Gogh Museum. Sure his stuff is a little cheesy (especially late), but because he took such an unattractive woman and made her beautiful because he loved her, is an example to us all.

You know the scene it's very hum-drum
And my favorite song's entitled "Boredom"...
