Oblak
Juanfran - Miranda - Godín - Ansaldi
Koke - Mario - Gabi - Arda
Raúl García
Mandžukić

BENCH: Moyŕ, Jesús Gámez, Giménez, Tiago, Griezmann, Saúl, Cerci

Atlético make a few changes compared to the derby game on Saturday: Oblak comes in for Moyŕ. A pretty uncommon thing for Simeone to do and not particularly normal since Moyŕ's been very good since joining. Ansaldi comes in at left-back. Siqueira not even on the bench. Mario replaces Tiago and he'll have to work hard to make that spot his own. Arda plays instead of Raúl Jiménez who's left out of the match day squad.

All three goals were horrendous. Nobody's attentive on the corner kick which leads to the opening goal and Mandžukić is blocking Oblak's view so he sees the ball late and doesn't react well. The second goal is the worst by a country mile. Mario basically just trips up Ansaldi and plays the ball forward to Afellay. He's either going to step up his game or he'll be benched for a good period of time. Tiago was badly missed in this game. The third goal is just bad stuff by Ansaldi and Miranda gets turned by Mitroglu. Very easy goal which could've been avoided as well.

The attacking play was solid going forward but the general pressing game wasn't good enough. Gabi and Mario weren't holding up the midfield well enough and the defenders didn't move up high enough to give cover which gave Chori Domínguez plenty of space on the counter attack. Very unusual stuff. The whole central line also looked very slow. That's a big issue which has to be resolved.

Atlético never should've lost this game considering the amount of opportunities that the team created but Olympiacos got the break by scoring in vital moments. This is also partly Simeone's loss because he's suspended, he makes way too many changes and the team doesn't even have one full day to work properly on the shape as they have a recovery session on Sunday, fly out to Athens on Monday and train on the same day without being able to hide their cards. Cholo also has to take the blame for playing Oblak here. This is a very tough place to come. Oblak is partly on fault for the opening goal and has to come up with vital saves in some of those situations. Overall a very bad performance in quite a few segments but at least guys like Griezmann and Cerci showed they can add plenty of quality to the team. Another positive is Ansaldi's attacking play. Lots of good crosses and the player who created most from his left-back position.

The players complicated matters for themselves and will have to turn this around now.

The three first points are on the board. Important win over Juventus. It was always going to be super tight. Arda with the goal. First time Juve didn't have a single shot on target since 2006 when they lost to Arsenal. Significant statistic. Miranda and Godín were just

Ugly win but a win nonetheless. Every team in the group with 3 pts and we're yet to play the weakest team.

There are no weak teams in this competition. MFF are a solid team.

Weakest is a relative term. Malmo is the weakest team in the group in relation to the rest.

Yet they beat Olympiacos at home. Doesn't matter if Olympiacos is quite poor away and Malmö really strong at home. My point: it's important to have respect for all opponents.

And we agree.

My point was that after a big misstep to start off, things have worked out pretty well.

Yeah, we've been a bit lucky to be honest, even if Juventus were never looking likely to score. Olympiacos had tons of opportunities (Malmö FF as well) but didn't take them. The referee also missed a clear penalty for Olympiacos. The next two games against Malmö FF are really crucial to continue building. I'll be at the Malmö FF-Atlético game as we're most likely having a pretty big gathering of Swedish Atleti-fans over there. Should be good.
