Aupa Atleti !!!!

Yo me voy al Manzanares
al estadio Vicente Calderon
donde acuden a millares
los que gustan del futbol de emocion
Porque luchan como hermanos
defendiendo su colores
en un juego noble y sano
derrochando coraje y corazon
Atleti, Atleti, Atletico de Madrid...

Real =
Barca =

Ugly as ****..but three points, again and Atleti is leading the league for the first time in ages until Barcelona play tomorrow against Getafe. Super strong despite the horrible performance.

Diego Costa should've had a hattrick.

We had massive share of possession but looked vulnerable all through the match. Gabi & R. Garcia will miss the next match against Malaga because of suspension after picking up their 5th yellow cards for the season.

Christmas break comes at the right moment.

The breaks have come at the right time so far. It'll be much, much tougher between January and February. Very important to strengthen the team, not just with a new player or two but definitely in terms of working physically with the players. The players look like they're struggling once they have few games. Not sure whether it's a good thing to rest so many in Copa-games. Similar thing last season after the loss to Rubin.

Profe has important work to do.

Well done Atletico, looked like the team played a 4-3-1-2 formation.

Atletico Madrid's plan was to attack from their own right flank (Levante's left side). The gameplan worked out excellently, since all Atleti goals came from that side. The cross to Godin's header (assist Gabi), Costa's second goal from a freekick (assist Gabi) and the penalty caused by Juanfran's run inside the box.

It looked almost like Gabi was the right back and Juanfran as the winger. Often Atletico overloaded that side with Arda, Koke and Costa providing extra passing options.

Man of the match for me was definitely Gabi, he provided two great assists and stopped multiple potential counters by stealing the ball from Levante's players and distributing it forward to Juanfran.

Excellently? They played bad, created few chances, and won it through two set pieces (one a freekick in which they left Costa unmarked and he managed to hit from a very hard angle, one a penalty that the Levante defender was very stupid to concede), and the first was a goal by one of the CBs.

Atletico needs to get their form back if they want to keep challenging.

Gabi had to step up as Koke went missing in this match. Koke is playing almost every match and needs more rest under rotation policy.

They dominated possession 67% - 33% and most of the game was played on Levante's half. Like I said, Atletico attacked from the flanks and main emphasis was on the right side. Considering that all goals came from there, I'd say the plan worked out very well. 1st goal came after a long period of pressure at Levante's half, Gabi crossed the ball to box from the right side. Gabi's freekick for the second goal came again, from the right side. Juanfran's run to create the penalty was from the right side..

The main emphasis was on the right side because Filipe Luís had decided to take an early vacation. Easily his worst game in ages for Atlético in terms of defending, both collectively and individually. He didn't even make up for it with his runs and combination play upfront which forced Juanfran to step up big time yesterday. The whole team as a unit started incredibly slow, just like they did against Valencia which ultimately was a huge issue half-way through the first half.

Gabi didn't get two assists, he got one. Juanfran got the other one and he also fixed the penalty. Gabi is the heart and soul of this Atleti-team though because of his positional sense, aggressiveness, intensity and energy.

Arda btw has to step it up again. He's too indecisive and has to be more direct in his approach when he runs at defences.

Koke as brs says has to be given a rest. The international break comes in a good time to re-energize.

Thanks for the correction. U're right it was Juanfran, who crossed that 1st goal. I don't think Filipe Luis was bad to be honest. Apart for that mistake in Levante's second goal, of course. Agreed about Arda.
