Liga BBVA | J5 | Atlético de Madrid vs Real Valladolid

Third consecutive home game in the league, then it's two consecutive away games next week. Valladolid first though.

Pucela is a team that likes the ball at their feet. They've applied Đukić's philosophy and played the same way since he took over last year. Important win at Zaragoza in the league opener. Impressive against Levante, even though they scored both goals through penalties, a solid performance at San Mamés but inferior to Athletic and then an underserved loss on Monday when Betis visited José Zorilla.

They rely a lot on their wingers. The main threat comes through their right-wing and Patrick Ebert who they picked up on a free transfer. He's a warrior who's simply been unlucky with injuries in his career, used to be a big talent at Hertha before despite his disciplinary record (smashing cars at his birthday). Víctor Pérez is the one who'll try to orchestrate everything from his midfield position and find the creative players (Óscar, Omar Ramos, Ebert, Javi Guerra..) and he's actually a really good tackler of the ball. Pretty quick, good at pressing his opponents and disarming them while Álvaro Rubio takes a more defensive role. I like Víctor Pérez.

They don't look particularly comfortable without the ball at their feet and I suppose Cholo will give them the ball, rob it off them and then counter attack them.

Jaime
Rukavina - Rueda - Valiente - Balenziaga
Álvaro Rubio - Victor Pérez
Ebert - Óscar - Omar Ramos
Javi Guerra

The players who were rested in Israel are back while some of the guys who played there have been left out, mainly Cisma and Sílvio.

Courtois; Juanfran, Miranda, Godín, Filipe; Tiago, Gabi, Koke, Arda Turan; Diego Costa and Falcao.

Simeone opts for a 4-4-2 again. Hopefully this time around Diego Costa understands his defensive tasks.

Tremendous finish by Godín. Even more impressive the way he stole the ball. Bravo. Koke with the assist.

Diego Costa is "taken down" and Atlético get a penalty. Falcao scores. 2-0. Never liked the way he shoots these but a goal is a goal.

Btw, Muñiz Fernández is having a field day. Seven yellow cards so far, five to Pucela and two to Atlético. About time they get rid of this clown.

It was offside, wouldn't have counted but you're right, Falcao should've scored. An incredible save by Jaime though, credit where it's due

Yeah, the goalie did react well.

Atletico is playing better so I'd say it's a deserved lead. Even if the penalty was easily given.

FT 2-1.

Courtois made a huge mistake to allow Valladolid back into the game and it was a nervy finish. Falcao was withdrawn at half time due to slight groin strain. He was replaced by Adrian.

At least we won. I'm just happy this wasn't a Real Sociedad type of game where we lost valuable points at the end. The players didn't look super fresh towards the end despite the rest they had.
