Liga BBVA | J5 | Atlético de Madrid vs Sporting Gijón

Atlético is taking on Sporting at Vicente Calderón and this is a fixture where we usually do well. Diego's not playing though, he's still feeling the muscle injury he picked up against Racing at the weekend so he's been given some time off in order to make the Barcelona-game on Saturday. Manzano's decided to make further rotations in order to prepare the team for Camp Nou..but for now though, we have to beat Sporting.

The opponent today haven't been able to record a point since October 7, 1992 at Vicente Calderón and they haven't won a single game in Madrid against Atlético since November 22, 1986.

Courtois
Silvio - Miranda - Domínguez - Filipe
Gabi - Assunção - Koke
Salvio - Falcao - Arda

Perea drops to the bench after playing two straight games at right-back as Sílvio have recovered from his muscle injury. Miranda-Domínguez continue as CB's while Mario's finally given a rest, this means Assunção is being given his first start this season. Gabi-Koke are back in the starting line-up after being rested against Racing. The forward line will include Salvio on the right who plays instead of Reyes while Arda plays on the left-wing. Falcao is the sole striker which means Adrián doesn't start tonight.

We have to wait and see whether this will be marked as an own goal or to Falcao. Gabi' delivery on the corners are good today.

Nice delivery on that free kick from the right side also.

His delivery is actually spot on tonight.

Falcao is a beast in the first half; he could've had like four goals and should've had two standing if Iturralde wouldn't make up reasons to blow his whistle.

Tempo is great, our central midfield is bossing the game and they're also recuperating it, time after time.

Sílvio and Filipe Luís are a freaking joy to watch when they go forward.

I just hope we can finish the game off in the second half.

FT 4-0.

Falcao was unlucky not to get his secon hat-trick. One goal was disallowed, one became own goal and he hit the post with a wonderful curling shot.

Filip & Gabi were immense. Gabi had 3 assists today all from set pieces. His deliveries were awesome. Salvio also did well. I think he has become physically stronger than 12 months before.

Did Manzano play Salvio as a right-back? Absolutely brilliant!

Three assists from Gabi's set-pieces tonight. That's crazy, are we turning into the Atlétic of Antić where Pantić had 17 assists in the Doblete-season with the majority coming from set-pieces?

Second half started slow. Atlético wanted to lower the tempo of the game considering they had such an energetic first half, loads of bad passes in the first 20 minutes and then..Falcao exploded, literally. Brilliant delivery from Gabi on Domí's goal and suddenly Falcao gets crazy, hits the bar, scores, scores and we won 4-0

The best thing was we won easily with a completely different midfield compared to last match.

We have to wait and see whether Silvio sub was a precaution or not as he played this match after recovering from a groin strain.

Yeah, I just hope Diego and Sílvio will be ready for Camp Nou.

That substitution still cracks me up though, Manzano did indeed play with Salvio as right-back

It was something like 2-2-4-2

Filipe & Salvio were still high up the pitch all the time.

Level

Atletico are now level with Real Madrid who drew this morning, and Barca are losing to Valencia at halftime, who are also on 7 points.
Champions League place beckons for Atleti this season.
