A draw would be fine at least.

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

Madrid haven't had a proper chance at rest for this game, this is a good time to play them but I just hope we can be better at the back and play without Perea. Btw, let's score on our chances as well, we usually screw up in this aspect of the game..

Serious question: When was the last time Atleti beat Real in the league? Seems like ages ago. Not trying to poke fun or anything, just curious...

Nevermind league, it includes Copa and everything. Like this season, it'll be four times we beat them including Copa.

Casillas

Just like the game at Bernabau, Iker Casillas saving all Atleti's chances, Real Madrid have scored 2 out of 3 counter attack chances.

I am surprised Elias has been included in the starting 11, he looks a little bit too nervous for this fixture.

Reyes playing well, but as usual, hitting the deck repeatedly from bad tackles, and Casillas denying Reyes from scoring.

2nd half

Better 2nd half on the scoreboard, but much like the first half. Aguero really the one capable to break down the packed Madrid defense. Madrid dishing out the fouls, Alonso probably should have gotten a 2nd yellow card. A couple of offside calls not going Atleti's way. Again close, but no cigar, this time however, Atleti totally dominated the match, unlike the last few of derbies. Was funny watching Ronaldo getting subbed, and Mourinho telling Ronaldo to hurry off the ground.

Same old story. We create good chances, Casillas stands in the way, Madrid score the goals and end up taking the points. Agüero deserves to play in a better club, we're just short of players who'll make the difference, we have one of those players, FCB and Madrid have at least six or so players who can do it, if not even more.

..and yeah, if we're going to miss our chances like we did yesterday, then all we can expect is a loss. You don't win by doing everything right and then all of sudden miss the chances you've created.

My match report for soccer newspaper GoalWeekly in Australia

My match report for soccer newspaper GoalWeekly in Australia
(not sure if it will be published, so I will post here);

La Liga - Match of the week
Vicente Calderon, Spain

Atlético Madrid Real Madrid
Sergio Agüero (86') Karim Benzema (11')
Mesut Özil (32')

The match of the weekend in Europe was arguably La Liga Madrid derby at a capacity (54,000) Vicente Calderon, between Los Colchoneros and the Madridistas. Indeed there was much at stake, for Atleti coach Quique Sanchez Flores winning the Madrid derby could have been a get out of jail card for a man given orders to qualify for Champions League, but currently has no realistic chance of achieving being 12 points away from fourth placed Villarreal. For Real coach Jose Mourinho, La Liga silverware chances appear to be all but gone, trailing Barca by 5 points, and 5 being the number of goals Barca put into the back of Real's goal last time the two teams met in El Clasico. More so, at stake is the meaning of part 2 of El Clasico this season at The Bernabeu in a month's time, Real need to stay in touch with Barca so that local supporters who have paid upward of 1000 AUD to secure a ticket do not pull out the white handkerchiefs as a flippant signal of protest to the end of season results of a team known for decades to have the highest wage bill in Europe.

Atletico, whose nickname Los Colchoneros means the mattress makers, due to the red and white stripes of a their shirts, the same colours of mattresses in the early 1900's, have not been considered as a threat to the royal overpaid team of Madrid, for almost a decade. However, today Atleti stood up to their more successful neighbours. Atleti enjoyed 55% of possession, Atleti had 12 corners compared to Real's 1,
and 9 shots on goal compared to Real's 8. Unfortunately Rojiblancos (Red and White) lost 2-1. The difference? Real's 29 year old Spanish Captain and World Cup winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas versus Atleti's 21 year old David De Gea. Not that there is anything wrong with David De Gea, who is currently linked with a 20 million Euro move to Manchester United next season. Both clubs are extremely proud of their goalkeepers, as both are products of their respective club's youth academy. It's just that Iker has 8 years more experience.

Even with names like Real Madrid's Ronaldo, Ozil, Benzema, the 50,000 of the 54,000 at Vicente Calderon came to see Atletico's Antonio Reyes, Kun Aguero and Diego Forlan. Whilst Reyes may have been seen as a failure at Arsenal and Forlan a failure at Manchester United, the two have certainly redeemed with 2010 Europa League and European Super Cup silverware for Atletico. Needing no redemption is the son in law of Diego Maradona Sergio "Kun" Aguero. Sergio got the nickname of "Kun" from his grandparents who stated their grandchild resembled a Japanese cartoon character. Kun won the 2007 Under 20 World Cup with Argentina, he was the captain, the golden boot winner and also voted best player of the tournament. In 2008, he helped Argentina win the Olympic Gold Medal, by scoring 2 goals in the 3-0 semi-final win against Brazil. This 23 year old Argentine need not look up to Ronaldo or Ozil or Benzema.

As the match panned out, Benzema and Ozil scored early first half goals entirely against the run of play. Reyes had twice pushed Casillas into point blank saves, and looked like game, set and match at halftime. Atleti pushed on, Reyes continued to make a nuisance of himself, one must wonder what Reyes must do (other than signing for Real or Barca) to call up to Spanish National Team. Eventually, Kun Aguero split the tightly packed Real Madrid defense and in form goalkeeper Iker Casillas in the 85th minute with a one-two move that Father (in Law) Diego would have been extremely proud of. Atleti did have one last roll of the dice, but again Casillas made the difference. Ronaldo was subbed off after 70 minutes, his slow walk off the pitch was meet with many boos from the Vicente Calderon attendees, so much so, that Real coach Jose Mourinho ordered his Portuguese star (the most expensive footballer in history) to get off the ground quicker.

There will be other Madrid derbies, but this one could well have been the last to have been played at Vicente Calderon, as Atleti prepare to move to Estadio La Peineta next season, a 74,000 seater stadium that was commissioned as Madrid's new Olympic Stadium for its 2016 Olympic Games bid (which was lost to Brazil). It most likely will be Atleti coach Quique Sanchez Flores last, and possibly too Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, who is now being linked with a move back to Chelsea in the English Premier League.
