UEFA Europa League | R5 | Atlético de Madrid vs Aris

Four games have been played in this years Europa League-campaign and Atlético are currently second behind Bayer Leverkusen on seven points. The Germans have managed to grab one more, eight and they've got a superior GA. Atlético are playing against Aris tonight while Rosenborg are taking on Bayer in Norway.

This is a good chance for Atlético to secure their passage to the next round of the competition. A win over Aris would guarantee that.

Quique decided to leave Filipe Luís out of the squad for this game alongside other players. Aris will be without one of their regular CB's; Ronaldo Guairo. He'll most likely be replaced by Oriol who used to play for Racing, so he's familiar with Atlético. Calvo is also out of this game.

De Gea
Ujfaluši - Godín - Domínguez - Antonio López
Reyes - Assunção - Tiago - Simão
Kun - Forlán

Interesting fact; Agüero's scored nine goals since coming back from his injury, nine goals in nine games. Let's do this.

Good that Assuncao is back. Mario was pretty disappointing in the last 2 games.

The weather is fine, around 2 degrees. Not like in Trondheim where it's -14 or something like that according to German TV..so they can be happy about that.

Quique gives Mario Suárez a chance over Paulo Assunção but the rest of our team is intact.

You guys are losing to Aris at home.

Aris is like a Bursaspor type team.

Disgraceful loss. Atlético are idiots of the highest order. Seriously, only this club can pull off something like this..

I am hoping since weeks that Asenjo will be back ... but still he is not and so we haffe to stick to De Gea and suffer!

I hope that the kid is not ending our EL run! Lets go Trondheim!!!

You got Cuper'd.

So, that's two wins for Aris over your dreadful team in just a few months.

Brilliant, great work.

This has nothing to do with Atlético being dreadful..because they clearly aren't. However, the defensive lapses of De Gea and Domínguez is probably going to cost the club dearly at this stage. Also, the team had 28 shots yesterday, 15 on goal while Aris only had 11 and four of them were on goal, yet they managed to score three goals. Sifakis had 12 saves, De Gea one.

Atlético have been shooting over 23 shots per game since Almería with the exception of Real Madrid..but the efficiency simply isn't high enough with such a offensively balanced team. Agüero might have scored 10 goals in his last 10 games, but he isn't killing off games, neither is Reyes, the same applies to Forlán and Simão. We can't afford this..

I agree with you these two young lads will maybe costs us Europe this season BUT they are young and should be allowed to make errors. But they should realize that they are not stars yet even if the have offers from big club or even if they are liked with big names in the papers!

Agreed. Why aren't you guys freaking starting them before me?

I always destroy everything.

It's your job from now on, Ram

Husky mate, Atlético need to start finishing off their chances because you can't attack for 90 minutes and expect the opponent won't be creating any chances. The defence is having problems because of the balance of our team as well, we're very offensive minded and they rarely get any support from our midfielders. That's why Paulo is so important.

I don't think De Gea is acting like a star, I just think it was a concentration lapse.

We need finish off matches from now on.

At least Atletico players have the decency not to qualify for the 2nd round of European 2nd division.

We already won it last year, this year 3rd place in Spain is much more important.
