Films made by Albanians

Let's list some of our favorite films made by an Albanian. I'll start.

Jammin' the Blues directed by Gjon Mili

Jonathan Rosenbaum listed this on his Essential Cinema list.

I haven't watched many Albanian films but I remember "Time of The Comet" directed by Fatmir Koēi. Pretty good historical/drama film about early 20th century Albania.

I know the director [obviously] isn't Albanian, but it's shot there and the cast is Albanian. I liked it a lot, has anyone here seen it?

Seen it. The acting surprised me considering these kids aren't even proffesionals. However the story itself left me a bit let down. Could have been far more powerful and it's way too adapted to suit a western audience. The director hasn't really grasped the feud phenomenon and history behind it like an albanian sees it. Instead he has looked towards the obvious punchline and rushed somehow. Still a good film but could have been far better. It's only the beginning thou. I'm sure someone else will make a better attempt in the future. Hopefully someone with a clear understanding.
I can tell you stories about real blood feuds in albania far more powerful than this film.

Obviosly not a film but still for me the best thing that ever came to albanian tv. Filled generations with phrases. Pallati 176 nga Andon Cesari (I think)

I have a feeling Doc and Plako only will agree with this.

Well that and "Shi nė plazh" which I have seen countless times

I felt the same way about the "Forgiveness of Blood", it could have been way mor powerful.

Pallati 176 is the masterpiece of Albanian comedy. Whatever Billy Shakespeare is considered in the literacy world, such I consider Pallati 176 to the Albanian comedy world.

There's other funny comedies out there, 8 persona plus, shi ne plazh, zonja nga qyteti, kapedani and even Cajupi's 14 vjec dhender, but somehow they fall short to Pallati 176. Part of it is also the casting and acting in it.

Another piece that is not that special, but the acting sets it apart is Prefekti. Robert Ndrenika makes it hilarious.

Anyway RIP to Roland Trebicka

Also, I remember Koloneli Bunker/Colonel Bunker was praised a lot here in Denmark a long time ago. I was still a kid, and they showed it on TV and I was so happy, because they mentioned it was an Albanian movie. Taped it on VHS

Old Albanian movies especially the comedies are timeless. The only feud I have with some of them is that they’re incredibly biased and heavily support the commie propaganda.

Some of my post-communism films are Gjalle, the Sorrow of Mrs. Schneider, Der Albaner, Tirana Year Zero. Dossier K, and Lamerica, there’s some I’d like to catch soon like Femrat and the Architect.

Cekja kish ca gallata too, but now he’s just recycling.

If you're not sure what to do with the ball, just pop it in the net and we'll discuss your options afterwards

Try "Lulekuqe mbi mure" if you can find it.

From the Post-90s movies I like "Slogans" best, the acting is great and it has a great storyline.

Nice idea Bulku , I've had a section for albanian modern movies in HD in one of my streaming websites but they banned me in those servers

Then i would suggest these movies post 2000, in the list to watch :

Time of the comet - a nice movie like others said
Amsterdam Express
Agon
Der Albaner
Amaneti
Gjalle
Pharmakon
Slogans
East, West, East: The Final Sprint
Anija
Amnistia
Une ti dhe kasandra
Tirana, viti zero.
Gjoleka djali i abazit
I dashur armik

I my top movies pre 2000 i would add movies like:

Skenderbeu
Zonja nga qyteti
Gjenerali i ushtrise se vdekur
Beni ecen vete
Pallati 176
Lulekuqe mbi mure
Tomka dhe shoket e tij
Kapedani
Flutura ne kabinen time
Dy here mat
Koncert ne vitin 1936
Partizani i vogel Velo
14 vjeē dhenderr

and others i might not remember now

Skenderbeu classic, my all-time favorite The gladiator is only 2nd to this.

Anyone into comedy should give Kulshedra & eGjeli a chance, to me best Albanian comedies ever.
