Albanian Futsal Premier League & National Team

The Albanian national futsal team represents Albania in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Albanian Football Federation. The team debuted in the 2005 UEFA Futsal Championship. They won the first match 8ľ6 against England, and they drew to Cyprus, but failed to qualify because of the goal difference. In the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup, Albania, was drawn against Slovenia, Greece, and Malta. They ended up in second place winning two matches and losing only one. In the end Slovenia qualified for the finals. In the 2007 UEFA Futsal Championship, Albania made a bad performance by losing all matches and finishing last in group.

After taking note of the official draw celebrated in Tripoli (attended by the local futsal committee president Alfred Ziaj) on past October 13th, the Albanian national team began their preparation for the prestigious event organized by the Libyan Futsal Committee. For sure we will try to show our best against all the other participants: the tournament aim is to obtain a good preparation, looking for Croatia 2012 qualifiers."

03/11/2010 Slovenia vs Albania 5-0 MATCH REPORT

Slovenia had to be patient to break down a stubborn Albanian side, who set their stall out not to concede. In the end Slovenia were too strong for their UEFA counterparts and will be happy to get off to a winning start. Albania were limited to long range efforts, several coming from their goalkeeper and couldn’t keep out a young Slovenia team led by Igor Osredkar for 40 minutes.

Albania clearly set out to defend from the off, but with Slovenia 62 places above them in the world rankings this can be expected and they did well keeping Slovenia out until the 14th minute when Kristjan Cujec scored a powerful shot from a corner kick. Albania would now have to come out of their shell and attack, if they wanted to get something out of the game, other than a low goal difference.
Slovenia pile on the pressure, knowing that Albania will not come at them and chances go begging; Sovdat guilty of missing a clear cut chance from inside the box after a good move. A timeout with a minute to go turned out to be a clever move by coach Dobovicnik as Slovenia had tripled their lead before the half-time interval.

Cujec scored a ten metre penalty before Igor Osredkar fired a shot into the top left corner. Cujec could have had one more from the second penalty mark, but he struck the bottom of the post from.
Albania would need to come out and attack in the second half if they wanted to get anything out the game, but all they seemed to want was to concede as few as possible. They did, however venture forward more often than in the first half, but rarely fashioned a chance of note. Still resorting to efforts from long range and barely troubling the goalkeeper.

Slovenia continued to control the game and a few chances came their way, with Osredkar and Fetic both hitting the woodwork. Gaj Rosic scored Slovenia’s first of the second half and it came from a beauty of a pass through the well organised defence. Rosic controlled and still had work to do to beat the ‘keeper, but he did so with his second touch and a touch of composure.

Futsal Planet most valuable player Igor Osredkar scored the fifth and final goal of the evening. He played an intricate pass into Rosic in the pivot position who bode his time and laid off his captain who finished unstoppably past the Albanian goalkeeper. He was happy with the win against a very difficult team.
“Today we played very good this is the first match of the tournament and we are preparing for the other games and i think we will play much better and today was most important to win,” he said.
“I think that we are a good team and we can play in the final.”

03/11/2010 France - Albania 5-2 MATCH REPORT

France headed into this game on the back of a 4-0 victory and knew that they only needed another win to make them progress into the second round, Albania didn’t make it easy for them by no stretch of the imagination. It was France that started the match the way they intended to play, attacking constantly forcing Albania to play deep. Teixeira Alexandre had a shot saved by Dervishi Erlis along with Otmani Mustapha and Chaulet Jonathan all within the space of a few minutes.

Dajko Dorian was booked for not wearing shin guards as Otmani Mustapha had a shot that Lumanaj Zamir blocked on the line. What happened next I still can’t believe, Teixeira Alexandre passed the ball to Otmani Mustapha who’s shot is blocked, Hamdoud Kamel collects up the rebound and it somehow goes out play for a goal kick. Chaulet Jonathan has a shot but it’s saved and Lumanaj Zamir shoots when he has options to the right, the French keeper makes the save. Bllaca Fisnik hits a fizzing shot straight at the keeper and Teixeira Alexandre hits a shot that is tipped over bar.

Good play by Dajko Dorian tees up Bllaca Fisnikafter drawing the keeper out of position only to hit the ball high into the stands, Albania were beginning to venture forward more and get more involved with the game. Dalipi Besian was booked for Albania for a foul and shortly after France smashed an effort onto the post making Albania jump into yet another clearance from the line. Chaulet Jonathan both had shots Basson Stephane at the Albanian keeper only to be denied at every opportunity.

Bllaca Fisnik broke clear for Albania, dribbled around the keeper only for Otmani Mustapha to be waiting to cover the shot on goal. Butt Farouk strikes one from 20m over the bar and Teixeira Alexandre smashed one into the side netting. Then the game saw it’s first goal, Haxhia Bujar scored a cross come shot from the right with Hackovia Spartak sliding into the back of the net with the ball, Albania had taken the lead.
Bllaca Fisnik went on an incredible run when he took 3 french players with him and out of the game, he was forced wide but this was the impedous for Lumanaj Zamir to smash a shot which was saved by Haroun Djamel.
France stepped up a gear and began shooting from everywhere on the pitch, from the left right and centre but ultimately being wasteful. Kourar Moustafa had a shot tipped over by Dervishi Erlis and then had another chance to score when set up by Dalipi Besian.

By this point Albania were on the back foot and blocking everything and anything that came their way only to be outdone by Alla Samir. The defence, which had been so solid for 17 minutes, parted like the red sea in front of Alla Samir and he opened up and rifled the ball into the far corner from 8m. Suddenly the game developed a sinister twist at the end of the half and a fiery encounter between Lumanaj Zamir and Basson Stephane began and continued after the half time buzzer. Lumanaj Zamir was later booked at the start of the second half for his part in the heated debate.

At the start of the second half Dajko Dorian fouled Otmani Mustapha to give Teixeira Alexandre a shot from the free kick, he set himself and then fired the free kick high and wide into the top corner of the stadia. You can forgive him for that as his next contribution led to France taking the lead as he scored a powerful effort into the bottom left of the goal. The Keeper got a hand on it but no keeper in this competition would have stopped that one. He almost had a second goal moment later when he went one on one with the keeper only to have the ball plucked form his feet.

Chaulet Jonathan got booked for not wearing shin guards and Albania started to get back into their impressive defensive display that they demonstrated in the first half. Saidi Ibrahim had a shot parried away by keeper and then Alla Samir teed him back up to fire wide.
Pacrami Alis shoots just over the bar before Alla Samir lays plays the ball to Basson Stephane who has his shot saved by Dervishi Erlis after a scramble in the box. Alla Samir again gets the chance to increase France’s lead only to be stopped by a wall of Albanian defenders. Then France score 2 goals in the space of 30 seconds when Teixeira Alexandre collects a cross from the left into the box and fires it home. He then intercepts a sloppy pass and races in on goal, does a small drag over to the right and suddenly France had got a 3 goal cushion.

Albania weren’t giving up that easily and Hackovia Spartak suddenly came to life. First he forced a save for corner, had a free kick into the French wall and then went on a run from a counter attack that ended up nicely in the French goal.
Albania started pressing more and more but couldn’t get through a wall of French, but then a mix up in the French defence almost let in Hackovia Spartak but it wasn’t converted. On the counter Pacrami Alis had to slide in on on Teixeira Alexandre to prevent another French goal only for Saidi Ibrahim to miss an open goal for france, great build up play drew the keeper to the right. Saidi Ibrahim quickly made amends for his error and finished off the scoring for France in emphatic style.

05/11/2010 Algeria vs Albania 6-2 MATCH REPORT

With both teams already eliminated from the competition, Albania and Algeria played out an enjoyable match in front of fans and media alike at the African Union Stadia. With both teams enjoying early pressure it was eventually Algeria who scored the first goal with Meghzili Zahir getting the goal after just under 8 minutes.
After the goal both teams played out a very enjoyable half and it looked like being 1 – 0 until Pacrami Alis found the net for Albania, the goal came from some heavy defensive work in their own half, the ball was played to him and he ran at the depleted defence and hammered a shot past the keeper to level the scores. Algeria struck back instantly and Bedredine Ali absolutely hammered a shot from the byline that goes right under the keeper, a fabulous shot that the keeper the keeper should have done better with but it gave Algeria a half time lead.

Algeria came out in the second half more determined to add to their lead and it wasn’t lone before Boudebouz Celim Mounir scored. His looped effort over the keeper was just the start as he quickly converted another chance less than 60 seconds later. He was sent clear down the left and absolutely battered a powerful effort into the far corner of the net to increase their lead.

After speaking with the Albanian players after the match they said that they didn’t see anything wrong with the challenge that led to the Red card but as far as I could see Dajko Dorian went straight through the Algerian lad and was sent off. Benfatah Sophiane S. was booked for protesting I think, it all got a bit messy but after that Algeria broke forward with 5 players against 4 and credit to Albania they held firm.

Going down to 4 men didn’t do them any harm at all, infact it’s united them a bit. Dalipi Besian seized on to an opportunity to pull a goal back for Albania when they got back to full strength he fired an effort under the keeper to make it 4 – 2
Meghzili Zahir Algeria hammered a shot that looked destined for the net, only for the keeper to deprive him at the last minute. That was a warning for Albania and they scored a further goal through Chelali Illies with a lovely shot from out wide. Albania pressed and pressed to try and turn around the deficit but were ultimately undone and Boudebouz Celim Mounir smashes in another goal in the closing seconds.

06/11/2010 Cyprus vs Albania 3-4 MATCH REPORT

Cyprus and Albania played out an amazing game of two halves today as Albania came from behind to beat their slightly more illustrious opponents. It started with Papadopoulos Iakovos having a shot from way out that fizzed past the right hand post. Shortly after that Bllaca Fisnik showed some amazing ability taking on several Cypriot players before hammering a shot at the keeper. Mavroudis Kyriakos kept the ball in well on the left and went for a run, which ended with a shot that fizzed over the bar. Hackovia Spartak collected a clearance from Hackaj Bledar and smashed a shot against the post for Albania. Whilst at the other end Iakovou Christos fired wide and Bllaca Fisnik got booked for holding onto the speedy Manoli Manolis.
After a pretty even first half itwas Cyprus who have took the lead. Polyviou Kostas held up the ball well and left it on a plate for Chrysostomou Chrysostomos to hammer it home for his first goal of the match. Albania didn’t let Cyprus settle and immediately got up the other end where Dalipi Besian hand a double shot saved both times by Odisseos Odissea.

Cyprus increased their lead further when Polyviou Kostas gets the ball in the centre circle and looks to be brought down, he kept possession though and ran clear of the Albanians to score his first of the evening. Hackovia Spartak had another one on one saved by the onrushing Odisseos Odisseas whilst for Cyprus Mavroudis Kyriakos had a shot turned away by Hackaj Bledar.
Manoli Manolis was denied a goal by a great sliding challenge from Pacrami Alis and Mavroudis Kyriakos linked well with Chrysostomou Chrysostomos, who has his shot was saved well by the Albanian keeper. Hackovia Spartak continued to make a nuisance of himself and put a shot wide after going clean through on goal. Albania might have been ruing the goal scoring chances that they had missed when Manoli Manolis got hold of the ball and passed it to Odisseos Odisseas, he launched it up for Chrysostomou Chrysostomos to smash it into the back of the net and that was the final act of the very entertaining first half.

Albania got off to the perfect start after half time, Bllaca Fisnik had a shot that went just wide of the target before they pulled a goal back from a cross into the area that Memetaj Ermir converted to reduce the deficit by 1. After that the game opened up a lot and both sides had chances, Chrysostomou Chrysostomos almost got his hat trick after lofting the ball just wide of the far corner after Hackaj Bledar committed himself. Polyviou Kostas looked to be on a mission when he hammered a shot against the bar but it was Albania that scored the next goal as Hackovia Spartak finished under the keeper to reduce the deficit further.

Chrysostomou Chrysostomos looked in the mood and was unlucky not to score again when he shot just wide of the post. Albania then stunned Cyprus and equalized with 5 minutes left to play. Dalipi Besian got the ball and belted it into the far corner, we now had a game on our hands.

The goal affected Cyprus and Polyviou Kostas was booked for hauling down an Albanian near the half way line. The game was then frantic from end to end when Albania turned the whole game around on it’s head. Where had this team come from??? Memetaj Ermir fired the ball into the far corner and he ran to the jubilation of his bench, Cyprus looked shocked and in the dying seconds Polyviou Kostas took a shot that ended up just on the wrong side of the post. What a game of Futsal!!!

Most Valuable Player Hackovia Spartak said after the game “We are a young team, the second half went well, we are all great fighters and it was a real battle in the second half.”

08/11/2010 Greece vs Albania 2-1 MATCH REPORT

Delayed by 10 minutes due to heavy traffic, Greece and Albania went head to head today in the 23rd September Hall with the winners set to take on Turkey in the playoff for 9th place. The UEFA rivals, who are both in action in the EURO 2012 preliminary round in January, showed a good game of controlled and tactical futsal – a stark contrast to Turkey’s earlier exploits against Algeria!

Greece edged the tight battle of the neighbouring countries but it was Albania who took the lead against the run of play. Greece were the strongest team in the opening 5 minutes and Albania can thank Bledar Hackaj in their goal for keeping them out.

Albania almost gifted a goal to their rivals after seven minutes. Instead of playing the ball out of play into safety, Dorian Dajko cleared centrally straight to Gkritzalis who controlled before shooting wide. It was a let off for Albania and only two minutes later Alban Neziri put the Albanians in front with a superb finish from wide that went in off the far post. Achis had no chance.

Greece eventually punished sloppy play by Albania when Christos Theodoropoulos capitalised on a mistake to score a thundering drive into the roof of the net from the left for his first goal of the tournament and only seconds before the half time buzzer Greece took the initiative through Antonios Manos, to take his tally to three, equalling his teammate Delaportas’ goalscoring record in the Mediterranean Futsal Cup.

With all the goals coming in the first half, the second half could have been dull to watch but with only one goal in it, it proved to be a tactical battle with defences on top.

Both goalkeepers had some work to do to keep their respective sides in it, with the Albania goalkeeper Bledar Hackaj on top form to keep the score down. Despite trailing, Albania didn’t push that many men forward, even in the dying moments of the half, they allowed Greece time on the ball and didn’t push for the equaliser.
The most exciting part of the game came after the final whistle when the Albanians were leaving the court, a disagreement between two of the players resulted in a skirmish forcing the rest of the team to intervene. It wasn’t a pleasant end to their game and no doubt it came out of frustration after having been beaten by their neighbours and rivals, Greece.

Antonios Manos took his tally of goals to three and scored the all important winning goal today so takes the Futsal Planet MVP award.

Greece will face Turkey in the game for 9th place and Albania will play Algeria for 11th place in the final day of the Mediterranean Futsal Cup.

09/11/2010 Albania vs Algeria 3-1 MATCH REPORT

Albania took 11th place from Algeria, despite having a depleted squad due to their infighting after yesterday’s game. Algeria put up a good fight but will rue their lack of clinical finishing in a game they would have thought they could have won.

In the first five minutes Albania had hit the wood work twice and then took the lead through captain, Zamir Lumanaj from a well worked corner. With the score line at 1-0 the game started to open up and Algeria could have and probably should have equalised but Zahir Meghzili failed to control as his team mate played the ball square taking the keeper out the picture. His failure to control allowed the defenders to get back in position and snuff out the attack.

Albania doubled their lead when Fisnik Bllaca ran through the Algerian defence unopposed and shot past the goalkeeper. It was a fantastic run in and out of players who didn’t seem to want to challenge him. He made it 2-0 and the Albanians were in control, but with their limited subs, could they keep it up?

Boulem Melab was the first to really come close to opening Algeria’s account and he broke down the right and shot. The ball hit the bottom of the right hand post before bouncing across the goal and out for a goal clearance. He did get on the score sheet moments later though and it was an unstoppable finish past the flailing goalkeeper. It was 2-1 and Algeria were getting a hold of the game.

Albania almost got their two goal advantage back but a good save from Bendida from Dajko’s shot and the crossbar for Neziri’s first time follow up thwarted their efforts and on the stroke of half time, Albania held out themselves when the referee awarded a 6 metre penalty for a foul inside the area. Illies Chelali stepped up, and on a day of a lot of penalties this was one of the few that were saved! And it was saved well by Bledar Hackaj to keep the score at 2-1 at half time.

Shortly after the interval and Albania had a 6 metre penalty of their own when Farid Tifrani was adjudged to have fouled Fisnik Bllaca. He duly stepped up and was able to convert to make it 3-1. Algeria pressed but couldn’t find a way through and with around eight minutes remaining Tifrani became active in the game as a flying goalkeeper.

It gave Algeria possession high up and they fashioned several chances for shots, but Albania were defending deep and compact so all shots were either from wide or distance. The time ticked away and Algeria couldn’t get the lucky break they needed. Tifrani was dictating play, but he also fell foul of the rule that stopped a goalkeeper receiving the ball back ANYWHERE after a goal clearance. It must be touched by an opposition player before the goalkeeper can play it, even if he is in the opposition half.

This means a team cannot play with a flying goalkeeper direct from a goal clearance and must try to play with only 4, until it is touched by an opponent.

Albania saw the game out with some resolute defending and took revenge on Algeria and claimed 11th place, Algeria finishing in 12th.

Fisnik Bllaca came away with the Futsal Planet MVP award for his contribution to a tough game that was made even tougher by the fact that Albania were missing some key players.

Historical matches between Kosovo and Albania (pictures included!)

The month of January registered something like an historical event for futsal, as the Kosovo selection made its absolute debut in two friendlies against the Edi Martini's Albania.

The first game took place in the capital city of the modern Kosovo, Pristina and ended with the home country overcoming the Albanian side by 5-3.

Two weeks later the event was repeated in Elbasan (Albania), with the local selection obtaining this time a 2-2 tie. In this second meeting took place also a women futsal match between the Albanian Olympic Selection and a team from Pristina: also in this case the Kosovo's side proved to be stronger than the albanian one.
