Albanian teams in Europe 2010-2011

Champions League
second qualifying round
Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova) - Dinamo Tirana

Europa League
first qualifying round
KF Tirana - Zalaegerszeg (Hungary)
KF Laši - Dnepr Mogilev (Belarus)
second qualifying round
KS Besa KavajŰ - Olympiakos (Greece)

Actually I opened this thread because my team Utrecht faces the winner of KF Tirana v Zalaegerszeg in the next round.

So, any info on KF Tirana is welcome. Do you guys think they're strong than the Hungarians? In the Hungarian forum they think KF Tirana has the best chances to advance.

Also, any information on the city, public travel, stadiums, fan culture etc is welcome. I've never been in Albania yet and actually don't know anything about your country yet .

Brilliant draw for Besa Kavaje btw.

Well i can only say that it's an easy draw for Dinamo Tirana , they got new coach and 5-6 argentina new players . Regarding to KF Tirana , it would be a surprise to win against the hungarians ,,, KF Tirana isn't ready for Europa League (they're full of problems) .. i hope KF Laši passes the tour , they got good team (and there play 2 of my cousins XD ) ....

KF Tirana is Ó team with plenty of problems, they have lost key players as Muzaka, Sefa and Will perhaps loose there most important player Lila very soon. They could perhaps get through to the secound round, but only to get massacred by Utrecht.

Albania is Ó very beatiful country with 3.5 million citizens, definitely worth Ó visit. And Tirana has the best to offer amongst many things, there are two stadiums. Selman Stermasi and the national stadium Qemal Stafa.

And yeah.. Good luck for Besa
Tirona Fanatics are the main and most famous fans. But in general the fan culture is very low and un-organized.

Knoert, I'm not sure if you're Dutch or live in Holland, but Holland came to Albania in 2005 for the Euro qualifying. I believe the Dutch fans had a good time. Well other than Greeks & Cristiano Ronaldo anybody else has had a good time in Tirana.

But I don't think Tirana will make it. They're not what they used to be. First of all there is a lack of funding, because right now they only have one guy paying the bill and the money from the city council has dried a little. Also the city council has to allocate money for Dinamo Tirana as well. One of their best players, Muzaka, left to Dinamo for money. Same goes for another player who went to a weaker, but richer team for more money. More players could leave soon. The only good thing is that they now finally have a good coach(I would say top 3 in Albania), after sacking 4 last season.

Anyway I feel Dinamo will do the same thing they always do. Bring an Argentinian coach who fails badly. The good thing is that unlike the previous years when players left, this year they have kept their core players and brought in better ones. Though they should have kept the 3 Argentinians guys for at least the CL games. Malacarne & Sosa were crucial for them last year. Well anyway they're getting an army of Argentinians.

Tirana has lost half of their team which include all their best players. They are starting from scratch again just like most Albanian clubs do every season. 1 year contracts are bad. Anyway, I will be surprised if they advance and same goes for Laci. Besa is expected to get massacred and as for Dinamo, I'm not sure how they'll do. They can advance or get killed 6-0. It wouldn't surprise me either way. They do have players who can play.

Like most years they (all clubs) will have one good result and then sell the game in the second leg and lose by 4+ goals

I'd like to change the thread title to: "The Chronicle of a Death Foretold."
Actually that would be a good title for out NT thread as well as the Europe 2012 thread. As a matter of fact can we rename our forum "The Chronicle of a Death Foretold?"

Until we join Kosova and have a joint league we can kiss our chances to European glory goodbye. Until then let's enjoy the charade a.k.a. Albanian Football brought to us by Armando "Scumbag" Duka.

Albanian trinity: Shpi-Vllazni-Fis.

Sorry for my late reply and thanks for yours, for me it's more difficult and expensive to travel to Albania compared to Hungary but it's a big adventure so I'd like to go .

If KF Tirana beats Zalaegerszegi they play at home versus us in the same week as Dinamo versus Tiraspol, so I could see both matches. Do they (Dinamo and KF) both play in the same stadium?

Also, are there any official league or cup matches the weekend from 24/25 july in Albania?

Partizani doesn't play in Qemal Stafa anymore, unless it's an important game against a 1st division opponent.

No. League starts in August as mentioned above. Cup starts in mid September and the first 2 rounds are pre-qualifiers with crappy 2nd division teams.

Thanks, so both Dinamo v Sheriff and KF Tirana (if the advance) v Utrecht will both be in Qemal Stafa?

Which teams do play in Selman Stermasi then? I found pictures of KF Tirana v Besa Kavaje in Selman Stermasi in 2007 .
http://www.asseltours.de/20071222.htm

Anyway, let's wait untill tomorrow when the first leg will be played, good luck to all Albanian teams .

Selman Stermasi is the 2nd stadium in Tirana and is owned by KF Tirana. But I don't think it meets the UEFA standards though I could be wrong. Both Dinamo & Tirana usually play their league games there, but Dinamo started using Qemal Stafa last year after Partizani was relegated.

Shemso, Selman Stermasi was one of the founders of KF Tirana back in the 30s. He was also a player, manager and president of Tirana, but got pushed aside once Communism took over.
