Dual Citizenship

Who here has dual citizenship, and which countries? How do you have two citizenships? How do you feel about it? Do you have the same loyalty to both countries?

I don't have it, but in Belgiulm it is possible. On a personal level it probably is a good thing I guess (Julia Kristeva has some interesting things to say about the issue), but in our globalised world (before as well but oh well) the idea of 'loyalty to a (or more) country' is a fictious concept.

We can bomb the world to pieces, but we can't bomb it into peace!

I have Jordanain and Cypriot.......But I don't consider myself loyal to Cyprus, I hardly lived there. I don't have that many friends there, I was just born there. Yet I still love the country and think its beautiful.....

i have two, Serbian & Maltese.

I feel pretty good about it

You have to define loyalty to the country better. I dont feel that i owe anything to an entity for the only reason of being born there.

you have to understand that this is something personal and something that I am not ready to discuss in public

I can only tell you that i am a Serb by birth, and a Maltese by naturalisation.

I have a Venezuelan citizenship and have had, residency in Spain and now in the USA. I should have gotten my Spanish citizenship but I never got around to doing it Now the clock starts again for me. So I am trying to get my US one, through my wife, who is American, I should have it before the end of the year.Currently, I have a residency card for the US, the so called Green card but I really don't feel comfortable with that status as the US Patriot act essentially eliminates any constitutional rights I may have in the USA.

I left Venezuela so long ago, that I wouldn't know what is like being "loyal" to the country, plus with Chavez being in charge down there, makes it even more questionable.

Grcies Pare, descansi en pau.

4 no. loyalty to hungary 200%, germany 0,1%, brazil 33% (I'm also honourable brasileiro btw)

I have United Kingdom and New Zealand nationality. Britons and New Zealanders are the same, except on opposite sides of the Earth, and both swear allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen, so there's no conflict of loyalty at all.

I got my NZ passport last year when I was thinking about buying a home down there (I've now decided against it). I qualify through my mother, who has been a New Zealand national since it was invented.

My wife has UK and Australian nationality. Conflict of loyalty alert.

I could hide out in Australia, anyway: Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement. Unless I'd be taking serious liberties with the Australian welfare system, I'd count as an Australian citizen anyway, and similarly Mrs Bastin in New Zealand.

Plus, of course, as EU citizens, we can go anywhere from Dublin to Lublin, except that I can't speak Polish or what passes for English in the Pale.

Since my mother is turkish citizen, i got the turkish citizenship for being able to go to turkish school when i was little. But i have not used my turkish citizenship for much(its pretty useless due to visa requests when you travel abroad) and i do live in Sweden.

Does that mean you will have to do your Turkish national service?

Nope, born as swedish citizen. I got the turkish one later. So according to turkish ambassy here i dont have to. But he also said that it was kind of a "grey area". But i have not got that "officiall call" from the turkish army, and i have never been stopped at the customs when i enter Turkey.
