Accused war criminal (Captain Dragan) arrested

ACCUSED Balkan war criminal Dragan Vasiljkovic has been arrested in Sydney by Australian Federal Police, the Federal Government said today.

Attorney General Philip Ruddock today announced the arrest of Vasiljkovic, 51, who is accused of war crimes during the Balkan conflict. The move follows a provisional request by the Croatian Government.
The Perth man is accused of war crimes during the Balkan conflict.

The Croatian Government has 60 days to make a formal extradition request.

"The Australian Government will work closely with the Croatian government to ensure that any extradition request satisfies the requirements of the Australian Extradition Act so that proceedings can be commenced," Mr Ruddock said.

"Australia is committed to international legal co-operation. "However, we also have to ensure that persons subject to extradition requests are accorded due process under the Extradition Act. "As this is an on-going law enforcement matter it is not appropriate for me to comment further".

Mr Vasiljkovic, 51, who now calls himself Daniel Snedden and teaches golf at a Perth community centre, last week again rejected claims he was a war criminal and said the Croatian government was pursing him because he was Serbian.

Daniel Snedden - that's original

Makes you wander why he's change his name if he's pleading to be innocent?

Yeah but most of us have changed our first names. The Aussies just cannot pronounce it.

Not changed officially. Just like a nickname. Eg the boss of Liverpool Bossy changed his first name from Bosnjak to a very Anglo/German sounding name.

Some of your names sound a little how can I say it without offending you? Traditional.

I didn't think he changed his name officially, as far as i know Rudi is his nickname, believe it or not even Bosnians have nicknames :eekani:

Anyway, traditional is good if you ask me (giving your child a traditional name will ensure he remembers and respects his roots)
