17th october 1961, 30 000 algerians manifested peacefully in the streets of paris.
the police repression has been terrible. many of those algerians (we don't know exactly the number because the government censorship and the lack of reaction of the medias of this time) have been killed, beaten, expulsed, jailed.
i didn't find out english site which relate this event (if someone find it...)
i gonna try to explain what was the situation.
1961. this is almost the end of the algerian war. de gaulle is dealing with the FLN front de libération nationale (algerian resistance) the end of the war and the independance of algeria.
during the month above the 17th october 1961, the FLN conducted action in paris, killing 22 cops. french police answered by molesting algerians workers in france. humilation and atrocities toward the algerians have been commited from police and also milices.
the 15th october, the pr
éfet of paris maurice papon instaured a "couvre feu" no algerians must go out in the streets the night.
pushed by the FLN, 30 000 algerians went in the streets of paris in prostestion.
and then, it has been a night of horror. the police had the white card to stop the manifestation.
since 2 weeks, a movie about what it has been one of the most censored events of french history is shown on french tv.
the movie is called "nuit noire". strong movie.
