Quote:
PARTY TO AN INSULT

Paul Routledge

THE burly, violent morons who man-handled an 82-year-old pensioner from the Brighton conference centre are the true face of New Labour.

And it is ugly.

In a few seconds of thuggery, they exposed the real nature of a political family that no longer has room for dissent, disagreement or respect for the elderly.

By singling out for attack a Jewish survivor of Hitler's Germany - who complained when Jack Straw likened people like him to the Nazis - these goons told us everything we need to know about the Iraq war party.

Walter Wolfgang's crime was to shout: "Nonsense" as the Foreign Secretary trotted out the official fibs about Britain's role in the military occupation of Iraq.

For his temerity, old Walter was dragged from the hall. And the police, instead of arresting his assailants, threatened the protester with the Prevention of Terrorism Act!

How cock-eyed can you get?

Hours later, Labour's chairman, Ian McCartney (above) issued a sort-of apology, conceding that the treatment of Walter had been "inappropriate".

"Inappropriate" is New Labour-speak for "wrong". Party bigwigs, but especially ministers, are not allowed to admit that they are ever wrong.

But wrong it was, and Brighton 2005 will be remembered for this shameful episode.

TV clips of a white-haired gentleman being humiliated by heavies will be played again and again.

Earlier that day, Jack Straw had been asked if he thought Britain is at greater risk because of Iraq. "I don't know," he replied, which is as good as saying: "Yes."

Now we know there is greater risk.

Who would have thought it possible that for a man with 57 years' membership, the danger would come from within his own party?

Tony Blair apologised a day late, and said it should not have happened. But it did. And he also sought to excuse the conduct of his goons. Some apology
Some of may not have seen the TV footage, but an 82 year old man shouted nonesense once when Jack Straw was excusing Iraq. He was beaten and manhadled by several security guards.

Then the police arrested him on anti-terrorism charges, it has caused such a stir here in Britain that a Labour party would treat an old man in the fashion.

It is a democratic party apparently :rollani: Is freedom of speech that Blair wants to give to Iraqis not good enough for folks back home

The main point was how the police abused the anti-terror legislation against a harmless old man, who only shouted "nonesense" once -- That makes him a terrorist I guess

The article doesnt mention what kind of a meeting it was. Are hecklers typically allowed to do that in those kinds of conferences?

The source is www.mirror.co.uk

@Bean: This was a Labour Party conference, the equivalent of a convention, the Democrat’s party convention.

Labour Party in Britain is unique, it was started by the trade unions who came together and formed a political party.

The Labour Party today gets 50% of its income from the trade unions, this old man was not a heckler per se, but shouted one word “nonsense” when he was Overcome by emotion and anger when the Foreign secretary decided to make the Iraq issue seem so trivial, not even worth discussing.

The previous week as you may know 2 British soldiers were arrested by the Iraqi police and the British troops stormed the prison and released their guys by force. Thus the Iraqi people were angry at the disrespect of the new Iraq laws.

The most important thing is that was arrested on anti-terrorism charges when he was clearly an old man who shouted one word.

It's becoming the norm, the government doing what it wants and not having to justify anything. The problem is that we're all sheep, maybe we always were but at least now most of us are starting to realize it.
