Weird things when you go back to Hungary

or, weird things when you're abroad.

One thing that has always been weird to me is handing money over in shops. I'm so used to handing and receiving money to and from the cashier that I try and do it in Hungary. But they always put it on the 'plate' (or whatever it's called).

Just wondering if anyone else finds something weird when they go to Hungary. Or if people who are in Hungary find something weird that is not done abroad that is done in Hungary.

never noticed the plate thing in shops there. will try to observe that the next time.

one thing I can't stop finding weird though is when you get introduced to someone you always tell your complete name. well, maybe not exactly weird, but different. and I have difficulties to do as they expect me to.

Completely agree. I find that extremely weird. I also find it weird to pay with Hungarian money lol. It takes me a week to get used to that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one

I always have my hand out expecting them to put the change into it and they put it on the 'plate'.

Been watching this since you first posted it and seems it's mainly the older cashiers. Last two occasions, Kaisers on Sat and Match today the young ladies (both 20 ish) put it straight into my hand.

What's all this about then. At the Xántus János school just around the corner today, 30 April, not a school leaving day I'm sure. Some other kind of celebration? Anybody with any idea?

Final exams will start on Monday, so it was ballagás.

And in the shop I'd got the change straight into my hand.

Just seen this. When I saw MJ's question I was gonna say that but in more words as a) I hadn't shaved for a couple of days and b) was wearing some pretty scruffy clothes so "scruffy old man shuffles over to talk to schoolkids"

Looks like high school, where highest class student are passing school leaving exams in May, and week before oral exams they get week off. We call this off week "academical week", no clue what is it´s eng/hun name. Maybe some farewell ceremony in Friday, before the beginning of the "academical week" for students who then return only to pass the exams.

We have similar prom (ribbon ball) so I wouldn´t be much shocked by other similarities.
