Red Bull World Series 2007

Not sure this deserves a thread on it's own but I was really surprised to see a Hungarian, Peter Besenyei, up among the contenders. He's currently third in the series and the next event will be on home territory, so that's one to look out for.

He's come 1st twice in UAE and the USA...there four more rounds to go...http://www.redbullairrace.com/

Well.....we need to cheer on some success!!

I know....I'm just a Glory Hunter!!!

This is the first year I've ever seen it.

It's an Air Race. Difficult to describe. Check out the website.

Anyway...we've got a potential world champion pilot.

Hungary rules the air! :smileani:

According to the website......

"Budapest remains a firm favourite location for the Red Bull Air Race and visits the capital for the fourth time. Last year, over 1 million spectators lined the banks of the Danube during the holiday weekend to watch the race. The Chain Bridge will mark the start and finish of the race and like last year, the pilots will have the daunting challenge of flying underneath the city's oldest bridge."

It's always televised...so I'll be watching this one!!!

I doubt you'd get 1 million spectators at a game of billiards!

Sport or not you should be proud, I read about this guy a few months ago. He was champion in 2003 and never finished lower than 3rd.

So, it was a Boeing 767 then?I'd like to know what is the longest flight route for Malev is it like going to Malaysia? I know they don't go to Japan or Uastralia. they used to fly to Atlanta and in canada Montreal but both flights have been canceled for years now.

It's got nothing to do with not being able to fly planes. Hungary is a very small country and they don't have the biggest airforce in the world unlike, USA, UK, Russia, Canada, France, etc. So it just a question of numbers. It's the same for F1. It's not that Hungarians can't drive cars fast, but when have we ever had an F1 champ? (Baumgartner really didn't acheive anything)

Also how many Hungarians are in the competition? One..and I bet when he retires, we won't have another.

IMHO...he must be a one hit wonder! But who cares....I'll cheer him on!!!

It also sounds from comments above as if many people haven't heard of the sport(?), let alone Besenyei. ......and finally, I haven't flown Malev since 1979! Maybe if I do I'll recognise the same air stewardesses

Nah, You're a Leicester city fan
This air race thing is actually fairly popular in Hungary. It gets a fair amount of media coverage. The legend himself Léderer Ákos does the commentary last year it was on the same time as the grand prix and and they had a race with a F1 car

I've never actually watched it though. I'd rather stick to football and boxing

I wouldn't watch it normally except now for the Hungarian interest. I was flicking TV channels a few months ago and came across this programme where a crowd of spectators were passionately waving what seemed to be Hungarian flags. This was before I saw any planes. I continued watching and then eventually realised they were Hungarians cheering on Besenyei.

I'm now intrigued to see them fly under the Lanchid!

Actually, Besenyei had created a sport for himself He has great support from Red Bull; RB boss is a flying freak.
Anyway it's a great event but also because it's always at spectacular places of the world. And, yes, there are always 1 million fans, no matter if it's Istanbul, Brazil, or Budapest
Anyway you should the big show in Budapest this Thursday, an event with F1 cars on Chain Bridge, also Besenyei taking off from inside the Buda Tunnel!
