World Cup Brazil

With the world cup starting soon i figured a new thread is in order. Here is a article about the only team with an Armenian in the WC.

TEYMOURIAN HEADS TO BRAZIL WITH IRAN WORLD CUP SQUAD

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

Andranik Teymourian celebrates Iran's win against South Korea in a
decisive World Cup 2014 qualifiyng match

TEHRAN--Iran coach Carlos Queiroz on Sunday named a 24-man squad for
the World Cup, pending the elimination of one player from the official
final line-up because of injury worries. 31-year-old national team
veteran Andranik Teymourian was named as a starting midfielder for
the squad.

Teymourian, who currently plays for Tehran's Esteghlal, has also
played for three clubs in the English Premier League, including
Bolton and Fulham. Teymourian, an ethnic Armenian born in Tehran,
has had 78 appearances for the Iranian national team and has scored
8 goals. His performance against South Korea in a decisive World Cup
qualifying game was instrumental in securing a spot for Iran in Brazil.

"No game is going to be easy for us," Andranik Teymourian said to
reporters at a training camp in eastern Austria last week. "But
playing against Iran is not going to be easy for any of our opponents."

Iran start their fourth World Cup against Argentina, Nigeria and
Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group F. They have never made it past the
first round.

They head to Brazil, however, having topped their Asian qualifying
group ahead of South Korean -- a fact the players will not let
anyone forget.

"This shows the enormous fighting spirit shown by the players,
proven in the qualifiers, and the fact that we could qualify is an
absolutely tremendous achievement for our team and I personally hope
that we can be one of the favorites also," Teymourian said in Austria.

The 24-man team, as selected by coach Carlos Quieroz, is as follows:

Defenders: Hossein Mahini (Persepolis), Steven "Mehrdad" Beitashour
(Vancouver Whitecaps), Pejman Montazeri (Umm Salal), Jalal Hosseini
(Persepolis), Amir-Hossein Sadeghi (Esteghlal), Ahmad Alenemeh (Naft),
Hashem Beikzadeh (Esteghlal), Mehrdad Pouladi (Persepolis).

Midfielders: Javad Nekounam (Kuwait SC), Andranik Teymourian
(Esteghlal), Reza Haghighi (Persepolis), Ghasem Haddadifar (Zob Ahan),
Bakhtiar Rahmani (Foolad), Ehsan Hajsafi (Sepahan).

Forwards: Ashkan Dejagah (Fulham), Masoud Shojaei (Las Palmas),
Alireza Jahanbakhsh (NEC Nijmegen), Reza Ghoochannejhad (Charlton),
Karim Ansarifard (Persepolis, on loan to Tractor Sazi), Khosro Heydari
(Esteghlal).

Brazil is just a scary team. Solid from back to front with great backups at each position. Neymar is a monster for Brazil.

Brazil will play against the team who end second in the group with Spain, Chile and Netherlands... Just sayin... They are overrated because of their results in Confederations Cup.

Neymar is sick in the national team, but I can't see them win with Fred.. Hulk is uneven, you never know how he will perform. Oscar why does he even start? Good defensive line. To win the World Cup you need a really good GK, Cesar is OK. Diego Alves is according to me a better GK than Cesar...But he not even in the squad..

I forgot to say that I hate the brazil national team
PS; Marcelo the best player!

Brazillia and Holland have always been my favorite teams but each WC has its own story and inspirational teams. I was hoping Armenia would have been that inspiration this time but...

i like uruguay and greece as "underdog" teams because of their fighting spirit and their more or less good relations to armenians.

as team i would like brazil, argentina or france to win it.

Portugal and Holland would be my other options. You know, the two greatest nations to never win the world cup.

US will of course be my top team, though Jurgan's dumb decision of snubbing Donovan might lead me to changing my mind.

Brazil will sweep their group, but that's as far as they go.

Italy is my pick to win it all, if only because of Balo. It'll be interesting to keep an eye on the Portuguese too

Sigh... The Netherlands. Even though they'll play like horseshit, and lose helplessly against the likes of Australia. But still

Brazil. Germany, Argentina and possibly Spain/Uruguay to semis.

I dont think Spain will have much success out of the group stages because most teams have figured out their playing style. Uruguay just lacks the dominance defensively to do major damage. But I think France will be have a turnaround from their last world cup and surprise some teams due to their great midfield and defense with Mangala, koscielny, Sakho, Varane and their solid midfield matuidi(very underrated), Pogba, Cabaye, and Ribery. This is just my opinion. But I agree with Brazil, Germany and Argentina. I feel like Argentina has gotten better than better with the emergence of Garay, zabaleta and di maria. (not even gonna talk about messi and aguero.
