Armenians at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Hello everyone,

We should have a thread for the Armenian athletes at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. This is not necessarily for athletes representing Armenia, but for those ethnic Armenians competing for other countries as well. I tried to look for a list of our athletes and all the events in which they'll be competing, but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone have a complete list?

Best of luck to our compatriots!

"2014 Winter Olympics: Armenia to be represented in 3-4 events"

2014 Winter Olympics: Armenia to be represented in 3-4 events

By Lusine Shahbazyan

YEREVAN. – Armenia will have participants in three or four events at the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia.

But it is yet unclear as to who will qualify for the Olympics, since the respective qualification tournaments will run until January 2014.

Armenia also has “wild card”—that is, International Olympic Committee invitation—expectations, Gabriel Ghazaryan, Head of the Department of Sports at the National Olympic Committee of Armenia, told NEWS.am Sport.

“[But] it is yet unclear in which events and with how many athletes Armenia will participate. We certainly will not participate in skiing alone. We also have expectations from the qualification tournaments.

“[But] I can note with regret that we will not have a representative solely in figure skating. None of our figure skaters has qualified,” Ghazaryan added.

The opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics will be held on February 7.

We have one man in the qualification for Alpine skiing, two men, and one woman in the qualification for cross-country skiing.

This event really isn't our specialty.

I wonder if any Armenians will be representing Russia?

With all the stadia and shit that's been built for the Olympics it's a shame that Sochi doesn't have a decent football club. Given the city's population, there would certainly be a couple of Armenians on the team if it ever materialized. God knows Sochi is large enough and more capable of accommodating a club than some of the ones playing in the second division. But I guess Krasnodar is the football center in that region.

Do you guys from USA think that Zach Bogosian will be included in the american squad?

Sweden gonna win the gold in ice hockey, Canada, USA and Russia don't have any chance this year against Sweden..

Armenia has 4 athletes currently in qualification position:

Alpine:
1 Man (Arman Serebrakian)

Cross country:
2 Men (Sergey Mikayelyan and Artur Yeghoyan)
1 Woman (Tadevos Poghosyan)

Both Mikayelyan and Serebrakian should do well enough and get the highest placement for Armenia.
