Hypothetical Dinner with 5 Armenians

Hey guys,

I'm trying to avoidng studying for midterms as much as possible, so here's a hypothetical situation that would shed light on some of our personalities.

If you could have dinner with any 5 Armenians from any point in history, who would it be, and why? I was asked a similar question about 5 people (any race), but picking only Armenians took me longer to figure out.

Here's my list, in chronological order-

1.Medzn Dikran (Tigran II)- The first and only emperor in Armenian history. He would be the perfect person to ask about Hellenistic and Iranian influence on Armenia, as well as pre-Christian Armenian culture in general.
2.Mesrob Mashdots- I'd want to ask him exactly how the Armenian language was spoken originally, and just about all the characteristics of the Armenian language.
3. Moveses Khorentatsi- To see what this guy was smoking when he wrote "Badmutiun Hayots" since he clearly mixes folklore, mythology, and actual history. He's be an interesting guy to have a conversation with.
4. Mgrditch Khrimian "Hayrig"- He was the perfect balance between pre-genocidal Armenian Church theology and politics (attended the 1878 Berlin Conference, which was mediated Otto Von Bismark [one of the 5 non-Armenians I'd pick to have dinner with]).
5. Antranig Ozanian "Zoravar Antranig"- There's really not enough I can say about this man, he's clearly a hero to Armenians everywhere for his courage, bravery, and sheer fearlessness.

I wish I could put in more Armenians there from the arts and sciences, but these guys top my list for now.

Ara Keghetsig (to see just how sexy the dude was)

and...

hmm...

Vano Siradeghian? lol

I think I actually opened up a similar topic years ago on another Armenian forum. I've lost the energy to 'forum' seriously though, so you'll pardon my half-assed effort. I do like your choices though. I find it too difficult to narrow it down to 5 names across the ages..

Mesrop Mashtots - Very interesting guy. Some people say our alphabet has answers to everything and secrets inside. I put up a video about it a couple of months ago.

Pap tagavor - One of the most interesting kings in our history. When Christianity took over, it only built churches and did nothing to the army and the whole country was starving. Pap tagavor took all the money and built an army and the country was up and advancing again. I think he was killed by the church later on. He is a very smart leader I think.

Artavazd I(if i am not mistaken) - I did some research on Tigran Mets and saw that it was actually Aratavazd who built the whole country and the army, Tigran only used it so he must have been a great leader.

Monte - A great leader, I have seen a lot of videos on him when he was controlling the army and he was a true leader. I hope instead of serjik, levonik, robik, Monte was running the country today.

Hayk - Our founder. I don't think he is a legend, and we don't have much info about him but I would love to.

Movses Khorenatsi - I wouldn't say he clearly mixes history, mythology. This guy gave a lot of info on our past and has some very interesting things he said that we just don't know what he meant.

I'd say Hayk is about as mythical of a character in Armenian history as Romulus and Remus are to Roman history.

The only significant Ardavast (II) of the Ardashesian Dynasty was Dikran's son, so you probably meant Ardashes I, the founder of the Ardashesian Dynasty (obviously) and the the city of Ardashad. Some sources say Hannibal (the guy that went against Rome in the Punic Wars) escaped Rome and fled to Armenia and helped Ardashes build his capital at Ardashad.

Paramaz- During the genocide, he was the first of the Hunchaks to be hanged. He is credited with this fabulous quote: "You may hang our bodies, but not our ideologies. On the eastern horizon rises a new Armenia"

Vartan Mamikonian

Gourgen Yanikian- if you don't know who he is, please research him.

Raffi, the writer and poet.

Heraclius- emperor of the Eastern roman empire and probably one of the most important figures in the pre-middle ages.

And if there was a sixth person, Joaquin Boghossian.. for obvious reasons.

What a great man is Yanikyan. I read his book which is written from jail. He had a very challenging life and if it wasn't for him, the Armenian Genocide wouldn't have come up. I think Asala was formed after he killed the turks. He also writes in his book about the kasharaker dashnak leaders and how the fool dashnaks follow them... great book

Very hard to choose, due to different times you get different ideas which you would like to research more.

At the moment:

King Arame of Urartu

Tigran II the Great, King of Kings

King Pap

Ashot II Bagratuni, known as Ashot Erkat - (Iron)

Leo or Levon II the Magnificent (Cilician Kingdom of Armenia)

Good choice about Gourgen Yanikian, first thing which I did, when I came to Sweden, I read his book which I recommend to everyone.

Futbolmasteryan

Actually he went very hard on every Armenian party of that time, but because Dashnaks were/are the biggest party outside of Armenia, he went specially hard on them and he did right.

Besides each belonging to a different dynasty, these kings pretty much belong in the same category of just leaders. If that's what you're into, that's awesome, but I'd get tired of talking just about politics.

Well, as I said, different times, different interests, I'm most interested in military history, development and evolution of military units, their armour, weapons, fighting skills, battle tactics etc. etc. If you find Game thread, you'll know why :smileani:
