Oh yea I've heard that they are doing auditions for a new anthem.
I think that old Aram Xachaturyan soviet anthem is better.

Hell yeah, I agree with X. Just like Russia took the USSR anthem and made it theirs. Aram Xachatrians anthem is great. It's the music that matters, not when it was created! Non of those composers, can even get close to the greatness of Xachaturian.

Also, did you guys know that Turkey's anthem was composed by an Armenian?

Thank god they are finally getting rid of this old anthem. It is an anthem of mourning not pride, it was adopted by the first republic immediately after the genocide and adopted again in 1991, it has no more relevance today and is too defeatist. We need something more proud and less sorrowful.

If I'm not mistaken the music of the current anthem is taken from the "Italian girl's" song or something like that.

That's what we need.FCArarat is right, the current one is more like a moaning.
Its not bad in my opinion, but should be changed to a more powerfull one if possible.

Yeah...about time that they change Mer Hayrenik.
It has never given me goosebumps, because the melody is just so damn mellow.

I hope to god they bring back Khachaturyan's.

I agree with you completely I love the original Anthem, if it isn't broke don't fix it. And as far as people saying its "wimpy" which part is, is it the part where it talks about our nation being free, or maybe its the part where it speaks about dying for one's nation...Now I know we are all different here we all have opinions, but I never herd of a nation changing a national anthem....I think thats wrong.

I heard that the new words for Xachaturyan's anthem are crap. But if it gets chosen, they will most likely be changed.

I love Aram Khachatryan, and i wanted to have his composition too, but we need something new. That anthem is too tied in with our Soviet past.

out of the other two, i cant really make up my mind between Tigran Mansouryan's and Robert Amirkhanyan's. Both great compositions and would be great national anthems.

Khachaturyan all the way. He's the best composer we've ever had, and that's a beautiful piece of music.

Mansuryan's is too slow, too soft, although I love Charents' words, and have recited them by heart since I was 4..
Amirkhanyan's is alright. Wouldn't be disappointed.
Yerzngyan's isn't bad...but too cliché.
Edgar Hovannisian would be my second choice after Khachaturyan I think.

But please let it be Khachaturyan!

Guys, forget the Soviet era. It's a new era. We all know that Khachaturyan had always battled with Communists, since they wouldn't let him compose. For example the Spartacus that he wrote and it became famous. So, it's not communist by any means. Keep the music, change the lyrics, and we have a kick ass anthem. Long live Armenia!
