World Class Player
Teams: Armenia NT, FC Pyunik, Barca, Arsenal
The draw for Armenia’s 2006 Cup took place at the Football Federation of Armenia this week. Only eight clubs had applied to participate in the tournament this year, of which four also entered their second teams. Thus, 12 teams will compete for the cup when the tournament begins on March 25 and 26. Eight teams will enter playoffs for the right to play the four that have already qualified for the quarterfinals due to higher ratings.
The match schedule is:
FC Gandzasar Kapan v Mika 2 (the winner plays FC Mika Ashtarak in the quarterfinals)
Pyunik 2 v Banants 2 (the winner plays FC Kilikia Yerevan)
FC Ararat (Yerevan) v Ararat 2 (the winner plays FC Pyunik Yerevan)
FC Shirak Gyumri v FC Hay Ari, Yerevan (the winner plays FC Banants Yerevan).
The second-leg matches of these teams will be played on April 1 and 2.
The Cup final will be played at Yerevan’s Vazgen Sargsyan “Republican” Stadium on May 9.
Meanwhile, the order and timetable for this year’s national championship is due to be approved by the Football Federation on March 21. Originally, organizers planned a top league of 11 clubs, with two rounds of matches between teams. But the Federation has received applications from only 8 clubs so far and is considering a championship in teams play each other four times.
In a separate event, the FFA Executive Committee decided on Wednesday to allow FC Dynamo Zenith to rename itself FC Ulysses.
