CL Matchday 2: Trabzonspor vs Lille

TRABZONSPOR vs LILLE OSC
At the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium, Trabzon, Turkey
Tuesday, 27th of September - 21:45 Turkish time

Game is tomorrow, in case most of you forgot.

Lille are a really classy team, I hear Joe Cole has gotten off to a great start there. Best hope for a Trabzonspor success is to not concede any goals. Trabzon will play their usual 4-3-3 against European teams, if I had to predict a team it would be:

Marek Sapara - Halil Altintop - Paulo Henrique
Gustavo Colman - Adrian Mierzejewski - Didier Zokora
Marek Cech - Arkadieusz Glowacki - Giray Kacar - Ondrej Celustka
Tolga Zengin

I won't be able to watch the game so will probably wish good luck now.

Oh yes, Adrian's back but Burak is still suspended. Colman and Paulo Henrique could be out because of injury. Glowacki is likely out too paving way for Mustafa Yumlu to play maybe? Vittek is sidelined for six months as he got injured in the 3-1 win against Karabuk.

I expect the same kind of tactic as they played against Inter.

0-1 HT.

Both teams have a combined 4 shot attempts (2 each). Lille just made good use of theirs..

Colman is the only one on trying to make anything happen. Zokora is great defensively and moving the ball around. The rest have been nothing to write home about..

The Brazilians (Alanzinho and Paolo) are SO wasteful its aggravating, especially Alanzinho. Serkan made something out of nothing toward the end, stealing from a defender and beating the keeper, though they called a foul.

I'd sub Alanzinho for Adrian

My guess is this team still needs to learn how to play with a CAM. We've gotten so used to playing through 2 deep lying CM's the past few years..

Colman is playing great

Wow. Didn't expect this. 2 games 4 points against much much stronger opponents. Congrats, you're making Turkey proud after Young Boys, Letanya and God knows what idiotic games..

You'll win. You'll play to win. But whatever the result, you were always winners in my heart and champions. And you'll stay that way. GOD HELP YOU!

You guys are certainly taking advantage of playing with house money. Congrats though, two games, two good results.

Is it true that if you don't use it, you lose it?

We actually dominated possession in the 2nd half (something like 60-40%) until our goal, and it leveled out a bit afterward.

Colman was a maestro today, so proud of the guy And Adrian was great when he came on, he really should have been subbed in earlier.

We're still struggling to find our identity offensively (especially when we don't have Burak available). It'll be up to the coaching staff to integrate Adrian into the midfield with Colman and Zokora. Up until now we play him a bit off the left wing. I'd like to see him take the role Jaja had last year, behind the strikers.

Defensively we did well today. Their goal came off a great through ball to Sow, and a shot off a really tough angle. Tolga probably should have been able to seal that angle off but he played a great game besides that.

House money? They had the same amount of points without cheating. I'd say that's pretty much great effort and CL is totally deserved.

Trabzon needs 2-3 class players, just like Galatasaray, to compete in Europe. They've done a marvelous job at taking 4 points in 2 games. I'm sure no other Turkish team would be able to do this, especially beat Inter away. Since it's Trabzon, who is after all lesser name than both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, it's surprising to see these results.

If you manage to get a point from CSKA at home and round it up at 5 points, that would be above my expectations already.

Before our first game, I said to myself I'd be delighted with 3rd place and see how well we can do against Europa teams later on. I won't get my hopes up, and I'll still be happy with 3rd place. Anything above that and I'll pee myself.

Btw, I don't get the Hazard hype. He's good for a young player, but I'd take Arda over him 10 times out of 10, granted Arda is a few years older.
