The list is made by votes from fans across the 3 divisions, which is why you have league one and league two players on the list ahead of championship players who are better.

That aside I have other issues with the list

First thing you can tell is its top heavy with strikers, either big target men of "bags of pace" forwards. If Leadbitter, Deeney and Murphy are better footballers than Hughes then I gave up. I've not seen a lot of Alli from MK Dons so I'll reserve judgement on him. The 2 Bournemouth lads have had great seasons so I'll not argue with them being where they are.

Personally I think Patrick Bamford, Harry Arter and Ross McCormack should be higher, maybe Jonny Howson too.

It's cool to see a Burton player make the list, never thought I'd see the day.

A couple of omission I can think of straight away who I think should be there are Johnny Russell from Derby and Alex Mowatt from Leeds.

And the best player in the football league right now is George Thorne anyway though I guess you can't make the list when you've only played 2 games all season.

At worst Hughes should be second to Matt Ritchie, judged on this season as Ritchie has had a great season. Hughes is a better player though.

A lot of derby fans don't seem to appreciate Hughes so I guess it shouldn't really be a big surprise.
