2012/13 League One Promotion & Playoff Race

Well then, currently Brentford are drawing 1-1 at Hartlepool.

Brentford are 3rd in the League, 2 points behind Doncaster, whom they shall play in the last match of the season at Griffin Park As things stand Brentford need to win to go up. If they score at Hartlepool they'll climb above Doncaster on goals scored, by one goal(!!), as they're both level on goal difference. Talk about tight.

Bournemouth top the table, 1 point ahead of Doncaster. Barring a major freak 7 goal swing then they shall be promoted next Saturday.

The play off places have all been decided, with the exception of Doncaster/Brentford. The remaining playoff place are occupied by Sheffield United, Yeovil and Swindon. Incredible that we could see Yeovil, Brentford and Bournemouth all in the Championship next season.

So, the drama will be on Saturday, where all eyes will be on Griffin Park. Hopefully Uwe's boys can do it

Doncaster earn promotion and win the league thanks to a 90th minute goal against Brentford while Bournemouth were held to a draw.

Playoffs:
Brentford vs. Swindon
Yeovil vs. Sheffield United

Brentford win on penalty kicks, though it never should have gone to that, they completely controlled the game but conceded bad goals

Brentford hasn't been in the 2nd tier since the early 90s, Yeovil have never been as high as the second tier, they have only been in the football leagues itself since 2003

Yeovil unlikely winners and they promote to the Championship (or any 2nd tier) for the first time in their history

Could not believe this personally. Brentford choked on their own turf (London).

Got to say, one of the more poorly attended play off finals I've seen in a long time. Yeovil in the Championship should be a laugh though! Some good free players on their level this summer. Jay Simpson, Stephen Hunt, Christoph Berra, Sylvain Ebanks-Blake, Stephen McPhail and the list goes on.

Brentford choke once again.

Would be poorly attended though, Yeovil and Brentford are very small clubs compared to others who have played in those playoffs, City, both Sheffield clubs, Stoke, Leeds for example. Indeed despite the move to Wembley it is still City vs. Gillingham in 1999 that was the highest attendance for League One playoffs.

As sad I was that Brentford didn't come up, Yeovil's promotion is a great story after Johnson's return. The man really is a club legend, its amazing where he has taken them from.

Really though both Yeovil and Bournemouth in the Championship is bizarre, two small clubs punching way above their weight. Even Doncaster can be counted in that, although they have been there a few seasons recently.

Bournmouth isn't that bizarre, they've financial backing from a drunk chairman who rings in 606 to take on the fans and a Russian woman who gives the half time team talks.

Small sized clubs yes, but if the likes of Pompey, Sheffield United etc all want to piss about with finances it's about time some of these clubs got given a shot in the higher echelons of the footballing pyramid.

Fair enough, but still not a club you're used to seeing in the Championship, and yes its a good thing.
