Official summer 2008 transfers

Signing no1

LUKE MOORE
from Villa, £3m

WEST BROM BAG MOORE

Aston Villa striker Luke Moore has completed a £3million permanent move to West Brom after signing a three-year contract.

The 22-year-old joined the Baggies on loan in February and made three starts and seven substitute appearances as they clinched the Championship title.

Moore, who won his fifth England Under-21 cap in March's goalless draw with Poland at Molineux, has penned a deal which will keep him at Albion until at least the summer of 2011.

The deal also has included a further year's option in the club's favour and the eventual fee could rise to £3.5million depending on performance-related criteria.

Moore is a product of Villa's youth system and was a prolific goalscorer for their academy and reserve teams. Alongside brother Stefan, he was part of the club's FA Youth Cup-winning side in 2002.

Moore followed his brother into the first team reckoning at Villa Park and scored his first top-flight goal in the 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in March 2005.

The 2005-06 season proved his most productive in a claret-and-blue shirt as Moore scored eight Premiership goals in 16 starts, including a hat-trick at Middlesbrough in February 2006.

Moore also got off to a flyer in 2006/07, scoring twice in the first eight games, only for a shoulder injury to rule him out for six months.

But he returned to notch twice in half a dozen late-season substitute appearances. Moore scored twice in nine starts for Villa last term.

In total, Moore made 41 starts for Villa, plus 57 sub appearances, scoring 15 goals. He also scored four goals in six appearances during a loan spell at Wycombe in 2003/04.

KIM DO-HEON
from Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, £550,000

MOWBRAY AGREES KIM DEAL

West Brom have agreed to sign Kim Do-Heon permanently, but will not be signing Bostjan Cesar on a long-term deal.

South Korean midfielder Kim joined the Baggies from Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma earlier in the year and made seven appearances last season.

He has now accepted a two-year contract at the Hawthorns, with a fee of £550,000 agreed, and Baggies boss Tony Mowbray expects Kim to make a greater impact in the Premier League next term.

"I'm now looking forward to working with Kim next season," Mowbray told the club's official website.

"His loan spell was all about settling into a new club and culture, but he's got undoubted talent and he'll have a more significant part to play next season."

ROMAN BEDNAR
from Hearts, £2.3 million

BAGGIES SIGN BEDNAR

West Brom have completed the permanent signing of striker Roman Bednar.

The once-capped Czech Republic player was at The Hawthorns on a season-long loan from Hearts this season and scored 17 goals in 34 appearances to help the Baggies towards to the Championship title and FA Cup semi-final.

As a result, manager Tony Mowbray has decided to take up the club's option to sign the 25-year-old, who will join Luke Moore, a £3million acquisition from Aston Villa this week, in the Albion attack.

MICHAL DANEK
from Vitoria Plzen, on loan

Mowbray has decided to extend the loan spell of goalkeeper Michal Danek, who joined the club in January from Viktoria Plzen.

Danek will stay at the Hawthorns until 1st January, with Mowbray then having the option to turn it into a permanent arrangement.

Will Luke Moore and Bednar score the goals you need??Im not sure.

Moore in my opinion is pretty overrated and his strength is really only getting in behind defences with his pace and movement. He is the kind of striker you pair with a hardworking targetman as Moore isn't one to get stuck in or close down.

I am not a big fan of Bednar and you can not discredit him for his workrate for the cause but he lacks a lot to score goals in the Premier League.

That Korean lad looked below the standard when I saw him play as well.

You have to sign a couple more higher class players if you want to stay up.

With high-class players you mean someone like Shola Ameobi, for whom we are about to give away 4 milions

I dont expect any high-class, known players to join us considering the salary regime at the club, WBA cannot afford players who seek high salaries, one latest case is Gera who left for Fulham and ongoing negotiations for Philips contract extension.

Moore was lost during the loan spell, but for some reason TM believes he will become a valuable memeber of the squad and im not worried about strikers really, its the defensive line which needs to be improved and yet there arent even rumours about new players.

I just dont understand how WBA can pay such a big sum for Ameobi. The lad has a bit of height that is it, he looks like a good professional player but not a premiership player

Seems like the price has dropped to around 3 milions, but I still do not understand why would we need him ? As you said he has height, but so does Ishmael Miller whos minutes would decrease considering all the options we would have in attack: Bednar, Moore, Miller, Philips (likely to sign a 1 year extension).... Ameobi ? Not to mention ones who will be sold or loaned out: Beattie, MacDonald, Slusarski.

A good one based on some of his supporters who are claiming he didnt really have the necessary space at Newcastle and has been often a sub and plagued by injuries.

btw we are linked to a player I only knew from FM, Bodde of Swansea. Talking about experienced players who will keep us up

GIANNI ZUIVERLOON
from Heerenven, £3.2million

BAGGIES AGREE ZUIVERLOON DEAL

Heerenveen have agreed a deal to sell defender Gianni Zuiverloon to West Brom.

The Dutch club have confirmed on their official website that Zuiverloon is heading to the Premier League side.

Zuiverloon is expected to sign a three-year contract at the Hawthorns, with the option of a further 12 months.

Reports in Holland suggest the fee for the 21-year-old, who was under contract at Heerenveen until 2010, is around 4million euros (£3.2million).

The youngster has been a regular in the Heerenveen side for the past two seasons after starting his career at Feyenoord.

He has been included in Holland's squad for the Olympic Games in Beijing in August and was part of the team which won the European Under-21 Championship last summer.

Zuiverloon is due to arrive at West Brom on Wednesday and could be viewed as a replacement for Martin Albrechtsen, who has joined Derby County.

Bodde would be a good signing. Tough tackling player with finesse, he is technically very good and has a very nice right foot. Works hard, and really can play the role as a deep play maker. Maybe a little too slow for the Premier League and can only play one tactical role.

Zuiverloon is class and has potential to be a brilliant rightback. Great defensively, technically brilliant, athletic, strong, will work up and down that line all day, and can create goals. At 4 million he is a steal

yeah former Feyenoord player. He has the ingredients but can suffer from lapses of concentration. I'm surprised Zuiverloon already left the eredivisie btw.

Bodde's just a hardworking journeyman. Honest player but no world beater. Maybe he can grow into the Arjan de Zeeuw role in the future cos he, lets be honest, wasn't much more than that either but still became important for his lower tier EPL side.

I dont think he will take the rb role immediately from Hoefkens, but looks a good deal - for 4 milion euros we got a regular U21 international defender while for double price sold Davies to Villa.

Hoping to see an experienced centre back soon

GRAHAM DORRANS
from Livingston, £100,000

BAGGIES SNAP UP DORRANS
West Brom have completed the £100,000 signing of Livingston midfielder Graham Dorrans.

Albion agreed a move for the Scotland Under-21 international in February after he impressed manager Tony Mowbray during a training spell at the club.

The player has penned a two-year contract, with the Baggies having the option of a further year, while the fee could rise by a further £150,000 depending on appearances.

Dorrans, 21, was named PFA Scottish Division One Player of the Year last season after scoring 12 goals for Livingston.

I saw this player play once and he looked quite good. Nice shot and very hard working. Don't know much but could be a nice signing

Marek Cech is a defensively sound full-back who can make very accurate crosses. He is slow and cannot link up with teammates well at all. His understanding of dribbling and getting forward is very limited. However, like I said, he is solid defensively. He tackles well, marks players well, can win headers which is not usual for a full-back. Also, as mentioned, his crossing is accurate. He can whip them in with precision. Also a good corner kick taker from the right side, sending the ball in with his left foot. He was unwanted at Porto and told by the manager to find a new club instead of reporting for pre-season training. I hope he does well. Congrats.

MAREK CECH
from Porto, £1.4million

West Brom signs Cech for £1.4m

West Brom have signed Slovakia international left-back Marek Cech from Porto in a £1.4million deal

The 25-year-old Slovakia international has signed a three-year contract with the Barclays Premier League newcomers.

Cech, who can also play on the left side of midfield, has linked up with Tony Mowbray's side on their pre-season tour of Holland and Germany.

The 6ft 1in defender has made 29 senior appearances for his country, scoring three goals - including two in a 5-0 Euro 2008 qualifying win over San Marino in November.

He came through the junior ranks at Inter Bratislava, before joining Czech side Sparta Prague in 2004.

A move to Porto followed just 12 months later where he became part of the side to win the last three Portuguese league titles.

He will challenge Paul Robinson for the first-team jersey as Mowbray's men bid to avoid an instant return to the Coca-Cola Championship
