Quinn stumps up £8,000 for stranded fans.

Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn paid for 80 fans that were stuck in Bristol after the Cardiff match. They had been due to fly from Bristol airport to Newcastle but the aircrew refused to start the flight due to "boisterous" behaviour. There were no other flights on the route until dawn. Quinn ordered 14 taxis and four mini-buses to the sum of £8,000 to get the fans home.

Hands up for Quinn, that's a fantastic gesture.

BUT, the fact that it was through being drunk and boisterous just makes me hate Sunderland and their fans even more.

Wht a guy, although that story doesn't do the Sunderland fans justice, Quinn himself said the fans were just singing, not being violent/aggressive.

Do you not know singing football songs is as big a crime as murder these days?

Quinn rescues fans again

Football fans tonight had a lucky escape when yobs hurled bricks through the windows of packed coaches bringing them home - and chairman Niall Quinn
stepped in again to help the red and white army return to Wearside safely.
After hearing that two buses travelling back from Southampton had been
ambushed by thugs, who put one vehicle out of action sunderlandecho.com
understands Mr Quinn and team manager Roy Keane authorised the use of the players' luxury coach to get stranded supporters home.

Two Sunderland supporters' coaches came under attack as the fans travelled back home in buoyant mood after watching their heroes come from a goal down to beat promotion rivals Southampton 2-1 and top the Championship table for the first time this season.

Fortunately no-one was hurt in the ambush, which happened about a mile
outside St Mary's Stadium at about 8pm tonight.

Police ordered that one of the buses, run by fanzine A Love Supreme, was not able to travel and fans faced the prospect of waiting hours for a new coach to travel down from the North East to bring them home.

But County Durham-based Classic Coaches heard about the attack and got
permission from Sunderland AFC's management to get about 30 supporters home on the team's luxury bus.

The players and management are flying home from the South coast, and only
needed the £300,000 coach to get them to and from Southampton airport.

Martin McFadden, editor of A Love Supreme said: "We're all grateful no-one was hurt and once again this is a magnificent gesture by the club and in this case Classic Coaches to make sure people get home."

Chairman Quinn endorsed his legendary status with the fans two weeks ago when he paid £8,000 out of his own pocket to get 80 people home after the Black Cats' win at Cardiff, when low-budget airline easyJet grounded a Bristol to Newcastle flight claiming boisterous followers posed a security risk - allegations the club vehemently denies.

Sunderlandecho.com understands Black Cats' fans were impeccably behaved, despite being goaded by their rivals' attack.

Hampshire Police are investigating and say a gang of local teenagers was responsible the attack.
