*OFFICIAL* COVENTRY CITY THREAD

'Operation Premiership', the sky blues' three-year plan to get back into the top flight, has begun with the following transfers:

Elliot Ward (West Ham - 1m)
David McNamee (Livingston - 100,000)
Jay Tabb (Brentford - undisclosed)
Colin Cameron (Wolves - free)
Mikkel Bischoff (Man City - free)
Wayne Andrews (Crystal Palace - free)
Andy Marshall (Millwall - free)

Generally I am quite happy with these signings. Ward, McNamee, Tabb and Bischoff are all relatively young and show good potential. Ward and Bischoff in particular are both very promising centre backs and that is an area we definitely needed to improve in. I also think Cameron will provide some valuable experience. At 33 he is on the old side but Adams showed last season that signing players of this age and even older can work to good effect (Wise & Hutchison). The two signings I am not convinced by are Andrews and Marshall. Andrews scored 1 goal in 33 games for Palace last season, a very poor return for a striker, even if he did spend a lot of time on the wings. I also heard that Andy Marshall was a bit of a liability for Millwall last season. We could definitely use another quality keeper, especially as it seems Fulop won't be around.

What does everyone else think? Are you impressed by 'Operation Premiership'??

Operation Premiership

Only problem with is, about 12 clubs have the same idea, so it won't be easy.

But you've been splashing the cash about, which is all well and good if you do go up, if you don't where will that leave you though? In the financial s**t again??

I prefer our new boards take things slowly approach.

At least we are showing a bit of ambition. A lot of clubs seem almost happy to be lingering around in the championship. The plan is as much a declaration that Coventry City is a club on the up as anything else, and if that has helped to attract a better quality of player to the club, it has to be a positive step. :smileani:

Yeah, but money doesn't get you everything, by far our best season in this division, was when we spent nothing...which about sums us up really, when you least expect it we suddenly turn good

So what are you suggesting? Spend no money and hope everything sorts itself out??? Not sure that's a winning formula either! The fact is the squad we had last season was not strong enough to compete, so we needed to bring players in. Perhaps they'll take a while to gel and perform better the season after - maybe that's what happened at Derby??

No, but just spending money doesn't bring success, having a good manager who can get the very best out of your players does.

It wasn't a case of time too gel with us, we sold all our best players (Riggot, Poom, Christie etc... who all wanted to be back in the Prem, and got players in who had something too prove.

You look to have brought quite well though, time will tell of course, you have a chance to do well, but so does half the league.

Anyway good luck....you don't want me saying you'll do well anyway, the only guarantee in the Championship is, whoever I tip too win it, always has a disaster of a season

The manager is always the most important thing, and I really don't think there's a better manager in the championship than Micky Adams. He looks competent in the transfer market and certainly gets the best out of his players (look at how he got the best out of Dele Adebola and Stern John last season after it looked like they were on their way out). We also ahave a great stadium and we're attracting decent crowds so the platform is there for us to really push on this season...

Well Billy Davies took Preston too the play offs two seasons on the trot, on a shoestring

If he can take us there first season he should be knighted

Thought your ground looked a bit odd myself..but I'm not a fan of these new grounds (including our own) much prefer the old types, but it's the way you have to go if you want to move your club forward, and the fact we get thrashed everytime we're down your place doesn't add too the appeal

Yes I must admit Derby (H) is one fixture I look forward to nowadays! :smileani: I know what you mean about the stadium, but it's certainly Premiership standard. The only problem is we don't own the damn thing! That's a massive asset for a football club not to have, so I'm hoping that one day we will we will be in a position to own it outright. Again, that depends on promotion and securing a Premiership future.

We've gotta be due a win this season surely...or at least some sort of performance, a draw would do

Well, no offence but I hope we tonk you all over the park again. I'll be disappointed with anything less than another 6-goal rout!

Yeah, Coventry away is not a fixture we look out for anymore, that's for sure.

Pretty solidly. Nothing spectacular but he looks like a promising player. I think he may be shipped out on loan again this season though as I doubt he has climbed the pecking order at Fratton Park...

Was it the majority of the first team playing, even if it's a freindly that's bad, we've won 2 out of 2, and we haven't even signed anyone yet.
