Palace vs Arsenal

As Rodney Marsh or Alan Hansen would say, Palace have two chances in this one... slim and none p

Selhurst Park
Saturday, 6 November
Kick-off: 1715 GMT

Crystal Palace defender Fitz Hall is doubtful with a knee problem, but boss Iain Dowie will leave it until the last minute before making a decision.

Sandor Torghelle is available again following a one-match suspension.

Arsenal's Edu is still ruled out with a calf injury as are Sol Campbell (Achilles), Jermaine Pennant (hamstring) and Gael Clichy (ankle).

The Gunners must decide whether to rest Dennis Bergkamp, with Robin van Persie hoping to make his first league start.

Palace (from): Speroni, Kiraly, Boyce, Butterfield, Borrowdale, Hudson, Hall, Popovic, Leigertwood, Powell, Sorondo, Granville, Riihilahti, Hughes, Kolkka, Derry, Danze, Watson, Routledge, Lakis, Freedman, Johnson, Torghelle, Kaviedes.

Arsenal (from): Lehmann, Almunia, Taylor, Lauren, Hoyte, Cole, Cygan, Toure, Senderos, Vieira, Fabregas, Flamini, Pires, Reyes, Ljungberg, van Persie, Henry, Bergkamp.

** I'm not sure , but Torghelle may be banned after getting sent off again for the reserves in midweek.

After Arsenal had dominated for most of the match, they eventually got the goal they had been pushing for. It was one of those typical Arsenal attacks, one minute before they scored, I said out loud, they're going to score now (hope I didn't jinx us! ).

After that Palace seemed determined to get back into the game. The team went straight into attack, and after an inspired rush forward by Lakis which was followed by a cross, Riihilahti and Kolkka stood ready to put the ball into the net. Aki got to it first, beautifully easing it past the Arsenal keeper, 1-1! Just minutes later, Johnson was played free on the edge of the 16 meter box. He sent it in flat in front of the keeper, to Lakis, who incredibly enough managed to put the ball over from less than one meter range. Arsenal then managed to get a few semi-successful attacks, before Palace cooly dragged out the time, by holding the ball and getting throw-ins.

Iain Dowie seemed delighted with the point, and I was delighted as well. I only wish Palace had attacked a bit more during the match, instead of passing it back from attack to defence so many times. Also the defensive attitude in the final minutes was not impressive, however one point was.

Arsenal dominated but created little. It shows that with a bit of good defensive play Arsenal can actually be stopped at times. In the end Palace had a great opportunity for the winner as did Arsenal, but Kiraly is an great GK also, very positive one.
