Robbo eyeing comeback against Canaries
By Oliver Bhurrut

PAUL Robinson has rated his chances of shaking off his knee injury in time
for Saturday week's Norwich clash as 50/50.

The Baggies left-back was sidelined after sustaining bruised bones against
Fulham almost three weeks ago and has been forced to rest after breaking
down in training just days after.

But he has welcomed the two-week international break which means he will
hopefully not miss any more than the two games he was forced to sit out
against Newcastle and Bolton.

"At the moment I would say I was 50/50 for the Norwich game," said Robinson.

"I tried to train just after the injury, thinking I would be okay, but the
knee just collapsed.

"But it's coming along well now. I've rested it a lot and had some
treatment.

"I plan to start training early next week so we will see how it goes.

"I'm sure most of the lads here wished they were playing again this weekend,
after last week's win, but from a personal point of view the international
week has helped get me back on my feet again."

Despite being frustrated, the former Watford defender is counting his
blessings the injury is not as serious as first feared.

And he has praised his Baggies team-mates for picking up Albion's first win
of the season against Bolton in his absence.

"I've got bruising on my femur and tibia - I must have just crushed them
together a little bit," the 25-year-old explained.

"To be honest I'm relieved because it could have been a lot worse.

"I felt uncomfortable for a while and it did occur to me that it might be my
cruciate - that would have put me out for a good six or seven months.

"But the surgeon looked at my scans and confirmed it wasn't too bad so I'm
now looking at the Norwich game with any luck. If I get through training
it'll be up to the gaffer whether I play or not.

Robinson, who was an ever-present this season until his injury, added: "I'm
delighted we're off the mark.

"We've been patient and we need to follow that up now.

"Norwich won't be easy as they showed with their performances against Man
United and Newcastle."

Saturday, 16 October
Kick-off: 1500 BST
West Brom replace the suspended Darren Purse with Darren Moore and Riccardo
Scimeca pushes into midfield to cover Neil Clement, who is also banned.

Andy Johnson (back), Paul Robinson (knee and flu) and Kanu (ankle) are all

BIG-MATCH FACTS

a.. WEST BROMWICH ALBION and Norwich meet for a first ever Premiership
fixture. The two promoted clubs have not enjoyed the most auspicious of
starts - Norwich are the only club yet to pick up a Premiership win, while
Albion secured their first maximum of the season, home to Bolton last time
out (2-1).

a.. The Baggies are unbeaten at home, and have failed to score in only one
of their eight League outings, but have not managed to keep a clean sheet.
Gary Megson is anxious for victory against his former club.

a.. The west Midlanders have won the last two corresponding fixtures against
Norwich in the Nationwide First Division, both by 1-0 margins.

a.. NORWICH CITY have not scored in their last three League meetings with
West Brom, and between them the pair have dropped 36 points so far in this
Premiership campaign.

a.. The Norfolk club head for the Black Country in search of a first Premier
League victory on the road since December 1994, which could lift them off
the foot of the table.

a.. The Canaries last won at the Hawthorns on 14 October 2000, when they
finished the better by the odd goal in five.

Referee:

Phil Crossley (Kent)
a.. Phil Crossley is the latest addition to the Select Group of Referees,
and takes charge of his first Premiership game.

AJ and Robbo declared fit
GARY Megson has been given a massive boost ahead of Saturday's clash against
Norwich with Andy Johnson and Paul Robinson being declared fit.

Johnson missed Wales' two games against England and Poland with a back
problem and Robinson has been out for the last two Premiership encounters
after injuring his knee against Fulham almost four weeks ago.

But both were set to take part in full training this afternoon (Thursday)
with the rest of Megson's men also being given a clean bill of health apart
from Rob Hulse, who has suffered a foot injury.

The Baggies manager said: "Everybody who has been involved in international
games seems fine.

"There is only Rob Hulse out after he took a knock to his foot but everyone
else is all right including Andy Johnson and Paul Robinson."

No for some reasonbest known to Megson AS hasn't really featured at all this season, its an ongoign mystery to us! We believe the manager thinks he is too attacking to play :fero: a lot of fans hope the manger is not here for too long, as we are usually utter defensive tripe at present.

NORWICH boss Nigel Worthington has told West Brom counterpart Gary
Megson: "Your bully boy tactics won't work against us this time."

The Baggies had the better of two bruising encounters last season but
Worthington is ready to go to war with Albion as his bottom-of-the-table
team again go in search of their first Premiership win.

Worthington, a former team-mate of Megson at Sheffield Wednesday,
said: "Last season we got bullied and we allowed ourselves to be bullied.
That won't happen this time. We'll be looking to stand up to them and give
as good as we get.

"Gary's teams come straight at you and are always in your face so you
have to match them.''

West Brom 0-0 Norwich

West Brom kept their unbeaten home record this season against fellow strugglers Norwich at the Hawthorns.

Albion dominated early on and Zolton Gera's shot went just wide while City's Leon McKenzie and Darren Huckerby both missed clear chances when unmarked.

Baggies keeper Robert Green made a fine save after Gary Holt defelected the ball from close range.

West Brom brought on Jason Koumas and Robert Earnshaw to bolster the attack but they could not break the deadlock.

Hungarian international captain Gera almost opened the scoring for the Baggies when his blistering right-footed shot from outside the area flew narrowly past the upright.

The early exchanges were controlled by the home side with Nigel Worthington's side struggling to get into Albion's half.

After 10 minutes the Canaries could have taken the lead when McKenzie volleyed over after a pinpoint cross from Huckerby.

From that point the visitors grew in confidence and became more of an attacking force as the game developed into a more even contest.

There was no doubting the endeavour and commitment on display but the lack of quality for large periods reflected why both sides have struggled since being promoted.

Huckerby missed the most presentable chance of the first half after defender Darren Moore had been caught in possession, but the Norwich striker failed to capitalise, shooting well wide with only the keeper to beat.

Following a through ball from Huckerby which bisected the Baggies defence, Matthias Jonson hit the side netting on 37 minutes.

Throughout, Albion's biggest attacking threat came from defender Moore who unsettled the Canaries rearguard on several occasions from set-pieces.

Norwich keeper Robert Green made a fantastic close-range reflex save after Holt had diverted a cross towards his own goal just before the half-time whistle.

Baggies boss Gary Megson replaced Kanu with Earnshaw early in the second half in the hope of unhinging the Norwich defence with his pace.

The introduction of the Welsh striker gave West Brom renewed impetus and he set up Jonathon Greening and his stinging shot was well saved.

On the hour Greening was taken off and Koumas was brought on in another attacking move by the Albion boss.

The Baggies continued to push forward and Geoff Horsfield's looping header sailed over the bar.

In a last throw of the dice Paul McVeigh and Mathias Svensson were brought on but they failed to make an impression.

The draw means that Norwich are still without a win this season and have not had a victory in the top-flight since December 1994.
