Mackay set to join Coventry

Coventry City have agreed a deal with Premiership Norwich to bring centre-back Malky Mackay to Highfield Road.

The Sky Blues are in the hunt for a defender after Spurs snapped up Calum Davenport in a 3m deal and Mo Konjic moved to Championship rivals Derby.

Mackay has made 216 appearances for the Canaries but has not played since the club won promotion to the Premiership.

The 32-year-old is currently on international duty with Scotland ahead of their match with Slovenia.

No move will happen before his return, although Coventry are in negotiations with Mackay's representatives about the move to Highfield Road.

Mackay cost Norwich 350,000 six years ago, and he missed just one match last season as the Canaries clinched promotion.

Norwich boss Nigel Worthington told the club's official website: "We've had an offer from Coventry City, which we have accepted."

I thought Malky was carrying an injury and may of still had a future at Carrow Road,
but to be honest he isn't Prem quality, and Worthy is probably right to let him go.

Good luck Malky!

West Ham have completed the signing of Norwich's Scottish defender Malky Mackay for 300,000.

The 32-year-old spent nearly six years at Carrow Road and was a key player in last season's promotion-winning side.

"His strength, experience and presence will prove of enormous value to our push for the title," manager Alan Pardew told the club website.

Mackay said he "jumped at the chance" when he heard West Ham were interested in signing him.

Mackay's Scotland team-mate Christian Dailly is currently a long-term absentee from West Ham's defence, so he will provide welcome cover.

"West Ham is a massive club and when I was told the club was accepting offers for me you look onwards and upwards," Mackay told the West Ham website.

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington paid tribute to Mackay, who spent six years at Carrow Road.

"I wish him every success in his career at West Ham," he said.

"He has played a major part in what we have achieved up to now but I have brought other people in and I have got ample cover in that department.

"It's good business. We paid about 325,000 for him and now we're getting 300,000 back which will go into the kitty."
