Aruna Dindane

We are desperately trying to sign him from Anderlecht.
Anderlecht want £10m for him, but offers only up to 4.5m so far.

Coach Winfried Schaefer has promised sweeping tactical changes for
Cameroon's high-octane World Cup qualifier against the Ivory Coast next month.
The Indomitable Lions have four points from their opening Group Three matches
- two behind the Ivorians - who top the table after winning both their
games.
And after watching the Ivory Coast beat Egypt 2-1 in Alexandria last weekend,
Schafer returned to Yaoundé worried about the Ivorian strikers.
"Ivory Coast have two strikers, [Didier] Drogba and [Aruna] Dindane, but in
my opinion Aruna is a better player," Schaefer told the Cameroon daily
Cameroon Tribune.

The attackers I have are doing their best, but we need a natural goal scorer

Winfried Schaefer

Schaefer then announced that he intends to counter the twin threat posed by
Drogba and Dindane by changing his squad.
"I can't give out my first eleven now but one thing certain is that my team
will be different to what people have seen in the past.
"The ideal way will be to have four defenders because [skipper] Rigobert Song is too lonely in the middle of the defence.
"I have [Lucien] Mettomo whom I will observe during training. He has to show more seriousness.

"My real problem, however, is with the attack. We need a scorer.
"The attackers I have are doing their best, but we need a natural goal
scorer."
Schaefer conceded that his team has not shown "great form" in the combined 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign so far.

After coming from behind to beat Benin 2-1 in Yaoundé, Cameroon were held to a goalless draw in Libya.

Kanu's message to target Dindane

Aug 18 2004

By Chris Lepkowski, Evening Mail

Albion target Aruna Dindane has been given a glowing report of life at
The Hawthorns after seeking the lowdown from Baggies' new-boy Kanu.

The ex-Arsenal man has told his former Highbury team-mate Kolo Toure,
a mutual friend of both play-ers, that he is enjoying life at his new club.

That message has been passed on by Gunners defender Toure to his Ivory
Coast team-mate Dindane, making him all the more determined to join Albion's
Premiership assault.

The 23-year-old is wanted by Albion to answer their goalscoring
problems but the biggest sticking point is the Belgian club's reluctance to
sell him, especially while they are involved in the Champions League.

Even if they fail to over-come their 1-0 first leg deficit to Benfica
next week, Anderlecht will automatically be entered into the UEFA Cup.

Dindane, who is rated in excess of £6million and attracting interest
from Lyon and a Spanish club, is due to play for Ivory Coast in tonight's
friendly against Senegal.

"Aruna asked Kolo to speak to Kanu about the club and what he heard
was all very positive," said Serge Trimpont.

"That makes Aruna even more desperate to move - it's now his priority.

"He is consistently one of the best players in Belgium and wants to
become a favourite in England. He believes a club like Albion would be his
ideal stage, especially with Kanu already there.

"He knows West Bromwich are keen so it's up to the two clubs find a
solution.

"Others clubs want him but he has made up his mind that he wants to
play in England."

If Albion fail to make progress on the Dindane front they will step-up
their interest in Rob Earnshaw.

The Baggies are considering a renewed bid for the Welshman and are
also tracking Lazio midfielder Ousmane Dabo, as revealed in yesterday's
Evening Mail.

Gary Megson, who lost out on Michael Carrick, is keen to bring in at
least three or four new faces before the transfer deadline in just under two
weeks time, although one other target, Junichi Inamoto, is not expected to
be fit until January's window.

Baggies keen on Dindane
by Ben Linfoot - Last Updated 26 Aug 2004

West Brom have moved a step closer to signing Ivory Coast striker Aruna Dindane.

Baggies boss Gary Megson has made an increased offer of £5 million for the Anderlecht forward, who has made it clear he wants to leave the Belgium club.

The Belgium player of the year fired Anderlecht into the Champions League on Tuesday, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Benfica.

Yet the European carrot matters not to Dindane.

He said: "I have told Anderlecht that I want to leave the club and move to England.

"I know we are in the Champions League but I still want to go."

Dindane's determination to leave is good news for West Brom, who are intent on signing a quality striker before the transfer deadline.

Megson is also interested in Sylvain Wiltord, who has been released by Arsenal.

From the Anderlecht website:

Aruna Dindane let us know yesterday that he still wants to leave. It looks
like the club is prepared to negotiate, if a club wants to pay at least 12
million euro.

The two goals of Aruna against Benfica increased the chances of his
departure. "I can only be certain about Aruna on August 31 when the transfer market
closes" says Broos. "Ajax, Lyon, West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham scouted
him in the game against Benfica. Brokers made Aruna crazy, and now he wants to
leave."

Aruna: "I really want to leave. Not because I'm unhappy here, but to play in
a better league. I'm happy that we qualified for the Champions League now. I
could leave 2 years ago, but I signed a new contract back then. The board
promised me that I could leave at any time."

Broos and Van Holsbeeck will no try to convince Aruna to stay. "Aruna can
show what he can do in the Champions League. After that, he can leave to a top
club. We don't see Portsmouth, Lyon or West Brom as top clubs."

Anderlecht lowered their price from 15 million to 12 million: "12 million is
still a huge amount of money", reacted the Anderlecht manager.

With all respect but Aruna is way too good for a team as West Brom. I understand that he wants to leave but in his own interest it's better to wait and play CL with Anderlecht. If he reaches the level he did inthe Benfica game the sky is the limit for him.

Well the Belgium league is one thing, but the Premniership is a lot lot harder, and I think he wants to see if he can cut it there. If he came I think we'd have the makings of a great side. We are playing great footy at present and just need a quality finisher. Aruna fits the bill perfectly.

I'll be very surprised if we actually signed him TBH. Anderlecht dont want to sell and are being obstructive as you would expect about him leaving.

Aruna £6m, Rooney £23 a fair comparison of skill? I dont think so.

Aruna was born 26-11-1980. Just to point out that Aruna is one hell of a forward. He has the best dribble in Europe imho, he sees the game, has the most perfect control... but his finishing is plain awful.

From the Anderlecht website ... maybe we have to wait til January ...

Anderlecht-striker Aruna Dindane, who didn't show up for training since Thursday and was also absent for the game against AA Ghent last Saturday, has left for Ivory Coast. This week Aruna is preparing - with his colleague-internationals - the match against Soedan on Sunday in his country of origin.

Aruna, the topic of conversation of the past week, was awaited by some journalists in the departure hall of the airport. He clearly stated that he hasn't turned his back on Sporting Anderlecht definitely. However, he will only return to Belgium if there's a solution for his situation at Anderlecht.

Aruna has attracted a great deal of interest from foreign clubs the past few weeks, but in each case the suggested tranferamount was insufficient for the Brussels club. The Ivorian striker didn't have a lot of understanding for the decision Sporting made and when Ki Hyeon Seol was allowed to leave on Thursday to Wolverhampton, he came out on strike. Nevertheless, the South-Korean striker had a clause in his contract which allowed him to leave the club for a certain amount.

Manager Herman Van Holsbeeck had sympathy for the disappointment of his player on Saturday and was willing to lay his contract on the table. Monday evening Van Holsbeeck repeated once again that Aruna, still under contract until 2006, will certainly stay in Anderlecht until January and that he expects a breakthrough in this case after Wednesday.

'WBA chairman Jeremy Peace has set up a stunning £5m deal for
Anderlecht striker Aruna Dindane - whether boss Gary Megson wants him
or not

Peace has been a hands on transfer dealer in tne transfer market and
has now set up a staggering move for the African hitman when the
window opens in January

But news of the deal is winding up Megson who wants the money to spend
on new midfield players

Wheeler dealer supremo Peace has been active in the market for the
past few weeks, taking responsibilty away from Megson

Albion's transfer moves have been the sources of much of the friction
between Peace and Megson - with the chairman going merrily along his
own way

However, the amount of money put aside for Dindane, who is also a
Tottenham target, is bound to shock baggies fans

Peace was also in Hungary last week, trying to tie up a deal for
Frencvaros left back Szabolics Huszti'
