Red all over!

ALBION will wear their new 2004/05 away kit for the first time when they
entertain crack Portuguese outfit Boavista in the club's 125th anniversary
clash tomorrow (Saturday, ko 3pm).

The Baggies are donning the red and blue strip as Boavista are wearing their
black and white check shirts due to the late arrival of their new match kit.

Albion's away strip for their Premiership comeback confirms the club's
switch to red and blue colours for the first time since the 1998/99 season.

The new shirt goes on sale to fans tomorrow (Saturday) at the East Stand
club shop from 8am and the Merry Hill outlet at 9am.

FOOTBALL: KANU FACES UPHILL BATTLE Aug 8 2004

West Brom 0 Boavista 0

Ian Edwards

NWANKWO KANU got a sobering glimpse of life away from Arsenal and just
how hard it is going to be to inspire West Bromwich Albion.

The Nigerian international had to wait 45 minutes of this bore draw
for his debut, following his arrival from Highbury last week.

Albion boss Gary Megson is desperate to take the pressure off the
28-year-old, who is the club's highest profile signing ever.

But it is hard to look beyond the talented striker if Albion are to
have a Premiership saviour at the Hawthorns this season.

Kanu might have only been given 45 minutes, but he was more
inspirational in that short time than anyone else on view.

Megson has been busy in the transfer market this summer but he still
has work to do.

That could mean another offer for Anderlecht's Ivory Coast striker
Aruna Dindane - who could help ease the burden on Kanu. This was a game to
celebrate Albion's 125th anniversary, but they could have played another 125
years without scoring.

Only the poor finishing of substitute Diogo Valente prevented the day
of celebration from being totally ruined as he fired wide with only Russell
Hoult to beat.

WBA: Hoult - Gaardsoe, Albrechtsen, Purse - Haas, Scimeca, Johnson,
Greening, Robinson - Horsfield (Kanu, 46mins), Dobie.

BOAVISTA: Faye - C Fernandes, Silveira, Rosario, Filipe (Pinto,
58mins); Pereira, Lucas, Barreto - Gonzales; Semedo (Santos, 60mins), J
Fernandes (Valente, 65mins).

From BBC website

Kanu made his first appearance for West Brom but he could not break the deadlock in a low-key friendly.
Bernt Haas came closest for the Baggies in a dull first-half when his cross looped just wide, while Cafu saw his long-range shot saved by Russell Hoult.

Kanu came on at half-time and moments later he set up Haas whose cross was headed over by Paul Robinson.

The former Arsenal striker was then nearly on the end of another Haas cross but the match ended goalless.
