Palace Agree Speroni Deal

by Peter ORourke
Skysports.com understands that Premiership new boys Crystal Palace have had an improved offer for Dundee goalkeeper Julian Speroni accepted by the club.
Palace had their first bid for the Argentine shot-stopper rejected earlier this month with Dundee valuing the player at a higher price.

The Eagles are in the market for a new keeper, with last season's loan star Nico Vaesen set to return to Birmingham City.

Palace are now thought to have upped their offer for Speroni and cash-strapped Dundee have been forced to accept the bid.

Dundee boss Jim Duffy was resigned to losing the keeper and they will now plan for next season without him.

Speroni is highly-rated after a number of impressive performances at Dundee in The SPL.

The 25-year-old is now set to hold talks with Palace and should he agree terms he is set to make the move south to Selhurst Park.

Duffy revealed that Palace and Portsmouth have made offers for the player with Palace leading the chase for his signature.

"Crystal Palace have made a formal offer but we haven't accepted it yet, so nothing concrete has been decided," said Duffy.

"I think the player is in Argentina at the moment so we will have to see what he decides as well.

"There are a few things still to be discussed.

"Portsmouth have also made an offer but they know our valuation and Palace's offer is closer to that valuation."

It sounds like there is still some way to go before this is a done deal, doesn't look like personal terms have been agreed yet.
Don't know if Dowie wants him as first choice keeper or back up to someone else

Well, what other keeper do you have? Speroni isn't all that bad.

We had Nico Vaesen on loan from Birmingham , but he's gone back there now.The other keepers are Cedric Berthelin , who we picked up from Luton a couple of years back, and Lance Cronin who is an un-tried kid from the youth team. Neither are going to be number one choice.

Ok then, Speroni is now a Palace player but does this put an end to the Kiraly transfer saga?

Crystal Palace have capped a busy weekend in the transfer market by completing the signings of Julian Speroni and Emmerson Boyce.
Eagles boss Iain Dowie landed defender Mark Hudson from Fulham on a permanent basis on Saturday and has now added Speroni and Boyce to his squad.

Speroni arrives from Dundee after the Premiership new boys concurred on a fee in the region of 500,000 with the cash-strapped Scottish side.

The Argentine keeper spent three years with The Dark Blues, but will now vie for the number one jersey at Selhurst Park.

Also heading to Palace is defender Boyce, who signs for The Eagles on a free transfer after leaving Luton Town.

Boyce rejected a new contract with the League One side and has been training with Palace recently.

He clearly impressed Dowie as he has signed a deal with the club following his trial spell and will now link up with the squad for their pre-season trip to Ireland

Personally, I'm very happy to just have a new keeper. As much as i like Berthelin, he didn't seem especially confident in the First, and to have to rely on him in the Premiership would be a big ask. That said, I'm not positive that this Speroni fellow is the answer just yet. Someone with a little more experience would be lovely, like Kiraly for example, so i hope we can sign him up as well.
