Leagues get name change yet again

League gets revamp

Division One is to be known as The Championship as the Football League looks to raise the profile of the three tiers below the Premiership.

Divisions Two and Three will be re-named League One and League Two.

With the top flight dominating media and public attention, the League hopes the changes will boost awareness.

"The Championship is a term steeped in the history of the League. It will place a new emphasis on its status," chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney said.......

yes, this will fool me into thinking 'The Championship' is a better league than the English 2nd division.

This is just utter rubbish.

The FA in their infinite wisdom have seen fit to rename Division
One "The Championship" and Divisions Two And Three will be called League One and League Two respectively.

What is the point in this? Are they bored at FA HQ? Why? Is if it wasn't bad enough when talking about Division One to figure out whether you were talking about Old Division One/Premiership level or current Division One/The Championship level. Now when you say in the pub in ten years time that your team won Division One, you won't know whether they won the top, second or third level division. Surely if you hear "League One", you expect that to be the highest level. You would expect it to contain Man U, Chelski and Arsenal, not Doncaster, Torquay and Northampton.
