Royals warned off McKenzie

Reading have been told they will have to pay £750,000 if they are to sign Peterborough striker Leon McKenzie.

Reading are the latest club to express an interest in the much sought-after McKenzie, whose London Road contract expires next summer.

But Peterborough boss Barry Fry is refusing to lower the price he put on the 25-year-old's head at the start of the season.

Fry revealed: "Reading have been in touch several times about him, but only to check on his progress.

"I quoted their manager Steve Coppell a fee of £750,000. He wasn't interested at that price.

"But they do have a wealthy chairman and if they decide they need another striker to increase their chances of going up, they may come back with an offer," he told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

I think he could do a good job in the 1st division but I dont think hes a Premiership player alas.

Leon McKenzie is a decent Second Division player (I have seen him play a couple of times),
but I'm not sure if he could cut it in a higher division.

He has a good goal scoring record, but Peterbrough do seem to be a very attack minded team (and very poor defensively )

Norwich were allegidly after him in the summer but nothing materialised.

Canaries swoop for McKenzie!

He joins on a 3-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical tomorrow.

I am very surprised by this.

I don't see where the money has come from, so he must of been signed on the cheap.

With Huckerby and Crouch both leaving, Worthy has moved fast to bolster his striking options.

I am unsure how well McKenzie will do ... and his debut could be the derby at Porta-loo Road a week on Sunday.

I may have to have a bet with the ASSistant Manager at work (an Ipsh*t fan!!! ) on this one.

Apparently Huckerby wants to stay,
but the club simply cannot afford his wages, or the transfer fee Man City were looking for.

Yeah, strange. Do you reckon more or less than 750K. Barry Fry was talking him up big time last season, a fee in excess of 1Million
More importantly, do Palace have a sell on clause
