Its not a wedding, its an agreement. You give away your daughter and get paid for it.

Turkish weddings make me sick. You want your daughter marry a real man, someone who will look after her but in the end you just sell her, I have seen couples break up because of this issue.

Never understood this tradition, its crap.

You are misunderstanding the dowry concept. Back in the day members of the family especially the men had to work their asses off to provide for the family. However a girl was naturally not as productive in the fields as a man was/is. Because of this there was little to none economic incentive to have a girl. If you have 3 girls and 1 guy then that 1 dude along with the father is responsible for all the animal husbandry/farming for the ENTIRE family.

A dowry helps fill some of the lost wages/food from having a daughter.

There is another aspect to this. A gelin back then was essentially like a slave.

She'd tend to the kids, tend to her husband, tend to his mother, his father, his uncles, his aunts.

They'd basically work her to the bone. So yea, dowry was compensation. Even slaves weren't free.

Yup but there are specific rules that must be followed.

You should know them, the Cerkez use the same exact rules to the T.
