Estonia - basketball, athletics, cross-country skiing, football, volleyball

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

I've always wondered how Lithuania got so good at basketball? They had quite a spell in the 90's and early 00's and some terrific players. Even better than Russia at times. Is it really the most popular sport over there?

Yes, from what I've heard that is the only really popular sport in Lithuania and their whole sporting system is centered around it. Sort of like Brazil and football.

That would sure explain it. Because they're quite remarkable for such a small nation and we've become pretty big rivals, even if we're so far apart.

It all started with this..

Yeah, it all started in 1930's when several Lithuanian immigrants came back from USA. They were pretty good at basketball (one of them actually won Olympic gold medal in Berlin with US team) and Lithuanian team won European championships in 1937 and 1939. That sparkled baskeball boom which 70 years after is still there.
