Martin Reim sets sights on Lothar Matthäus' record of 150 caps

Currently our legendary midfielder has 148 international caps. He has been called up again for the NT for the two upcoming friendlies against Poland and Slovenia. He has also announced that he will finish his international career after these matches so unless he reconsiders that decision he won't break Matthäus' European record of 150 international caps. But he has a chance of repeating it and he probably will as it looks likely that he will get at least some playing time in both matches. Maybe even as a starter as we lack experienced players in that young selection Goes has called up.

Anyway, he's a real legend, probably the greatest Estonian footballer after Poom. Although he never achieved much success in club level (played most of his career in Estonian league) he has always been an instrumental member and a mental leader of our NT. Always remebered fondly by the fans

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

Maybe he'll also get a farewell game on home soil and eventually make the 151 caps.

151 caps ! Since Estonia doesn't usually make it in major tournament which means not that many games in a year, that imply he has been playing under the blue jersey for more than 10 years or so !?

Yep, since the very first game after regaining independence, which was in 1992 against Slovenia in Tallinn (1:1). And now he may end his NT career against the same team.
According to Wikipedia, he is the most experienced player on international level never to have participated on a major tournament.
His National team career:

1992: 3/0
1993: 12/0
1994: 9/1 - Wales (pen)
1995: 10/4 - Küpros (pen), Itaalia, Sloveenia, Horvaatia
1996: 9/1 - Leedu (pen)
1997: 16/1 - Leedu
1998: 11/1 - Fääri saared (pen)
1999: 16/3 - Norra (pen), Andorra, Araabia Ühendemiraadid (pen)
2000: 9/3 - Tai (pen), Andorra (pen), Andorra
2001: 12/0
2002: 9/0
2003: 8/0
2004: 13/0
2005: 8/0
2006: 3/0
Kokku: 148/14

He deserves it.
Was the key player when I first saw the Estonian NT against Austria in... 1997? Still remember that squad: Poom - Kirs, Hohlov-Simson, Lemsalu (playing for FSV Mainz 05 that season), Meet - Viikmäe, Pari, Reim, Kristal, Alonen - Oper.
