Hahaha Vjatšeslav Zahovaiko wins World's Most Effective Goalscorer Award

Yep it's true...one of the worst finishers ever for Estonian NT, FC Flora's forward Zahovaiko has won IFFHS' World's most effective Top Division Goal Scorer of the Year award for the year 2006 He scored 25 goals in 21 matches what was the best record of goals per game (1,19) in any of the top leagues in the world. Behind him finished such stars as Klas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax) with 35 goals in 35 matches and Miroslav Klose (Werder Bremen) 25/26. Another Meistriliiga forward Maksim Gruznov from Narva Trans finished fifth with 31 goals in 34 games.
The award was presented to him at World Football Gala in Salzburg yesterday evening.

It's cool that an Estonian player won it (although it's not that hard for the strikers playing in the top clubs here considering the huge level of difference between strong and weak clubs in Meistriliiga). But it's pretty funny that it was Zahovaiko who was branded as the most effective goalscorer on the planet...he really isn't that great finisher at all p

Looks like that award earned him a lucrative new contract in .... Kuwait
He got a 5 month loan contract with option for the club to buy him after that period for 1 million USD. Flora gets 300 000 USD for the loan.

Oh, and the club's Al-Kuwait SC.

Haha, they could afford so many scouts, then why do they look for their players in the papers?

That's a good deal for him and Flora...this award was useful after all as apparently that was the reason why they became interested in him.

Amazing deal ! The best part is that Flora makes a good amount out of it.

What i liked the most were the comments made by Pohlak...sth like this:

" if youre told that there is a tree, you are told that you will have to climb on top of it and there will be a lot of money there then you will climb on top of that tree!"

Flora are going to get a good amount of money from this deal. Flora have been lucky in that sense this year...They got their fair share for Palatu also.

As they won't play a big role in next year's championship they'll probably make need of that money. Flora's lagging behind the last years - too much!

Flora usually doesn't spend money on signing players. Almost all their players are from their own system. That money they made will be invested in their projects like youth development and building training grounds and improving the national stadium.

Basically they don't really care how they do in the league. Flora and its owner Aivar Pohlak are mostly concerned with developing the Estonian football as a whole.

I see Levadia doing well in the league as well as in bringing new talents up (Purje, maybe Saag etc.). And their international campaign last year could have an even greater effect on Estonian football which wouldn't be possible with a certain level of class in their first team.
I think that it's the wrong way in neglecting the Meistriliiga for as long as its level won't improve the NT won't improve much either. Few foreign clubs will scout in Estonias youth division...

hehehe Zahovaiko sent back home after two weeks and Kuwaitis are trying to weasel out of paying the money by saying he didn't pass the medical p

can't say I'm surprised about this

Flora is still hoping to get the money with the help of FIFA though (and probably will succeed as the medical excuse sounds laughable considering how long he was there)

he will be playing in Portuguese Superleague now as UD Leiria signed a 2-year contract with him for some strange reason
