Kolinko, Latvian player of the year !

FC Rubin Kazan goalkeeper Aleksandrs Kolinko has been named Latvia's Player of the Year with defender Jean Paul Ndeki taking the honour in domestic football.

Kolinko dominates

Members of the Latvian Football Federation voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Russia-based goalkeeper, with 27 of the 40 delegates entitled to vote giving Kolinko the nod. FHK Liepajas Metalurgs striker Girts Karlsons came second in the poll. Defender Igors Stepanovs was last year's Player of the Year while Maris Verpakovskis had the honour in 2003 and 2004.

Domestic honours

As well as being declared the top domestic player overall, FK Ventspils's Ndeki was named the best defender in the Latvian Virsliga. His team-mate Andris Vanins was the best goalkeeper, Karlsons won the poll for best forward, while Darius Miceika of Metalurgs and Skonto FC captain Vitalijs Astafjevs shared the spoils for best midfielder.
