Latvia - Island / Northern Ireland [Euro 08 Qual]

Coach Jurijs Andrejevs has named two uncapped players in his 22-man Latvia squad for the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers against Iceland and Northern Ireland.

Metalurgs duo
Defender Pavels Surnins and striker Kristaps Grebis, both of whom play for FHK Liepajas Metalurgs, have impressed Andrejevs with their performances in the Latvian league. However, Skonto FC midfielder Viktors Morozs misses out through injury while FC Shinnik Yaroslavl winger Andrejs Rubins is out for at least two months having undergone knee surgery at his club.

Pahars fit
Better news is that Anorthosis Famagusta FC forward Marians Pahars has returned to full fitness and is ready to play. Latvia, who opened their campaign with a home defeat by Sweden, entertain Iceland in Riga on 7 October before playing Northern Ireland in Belfast four days later.

Latvia squad

Goalkeepers: Andrejs Piedels (Skonto FC), Aleksandrs Kolinko (FC Rubin Kazan), Andris Vanins (FK Ventspils)

Defenders: Igors Stepanovs (FK Jurmala), Maris Smirnovs (SK Ditton), Deniss Ivanovs (FHK Liepajas Metalurgs), Kaspars Gorkšs (FK Ventspils), Oskars Klava (FHK Liepajas Metalurgs), Deniss Kačanovs (FK Ventspils), Dzintars Zirnis (FHK Liepajas Metalurgs), Pavels Surnins (FHK Liepajas Metalurgs)

Skonto FC forward Gatis Kalninš has been called into the Latvia squad after FK Jurmala striker Andrejs Prohorenkovs was sidelined by an ankle injury. Jurijs Andrejevs's side entertain Iceland in Group F on Saturday before travelling to Northern Ireland the following Wednesday.

Latvia will face Northern Ireland without Imants Bleidelis and Oskars Kļava. Serious losses as Bleidelis in centre, Kļava in the back were stable main squad players.

You can watch the goals here - go to http://www.tvnet.lv/onlinetv/play.ph...366&aid=237373 and scroll the time till 35:43

alot of your guys play for local teams, i expect the game on wednesday to be a very tight one, though some of your players may be fazed by the crowd, if you saw our game against Spain look at Torres, or even the England game with Rooney, hot headed players dont like Windsor

I think our guys have pretty good expierence of playing in front of passionate fans, as we were facing Turkey in their stadium. So team shouldn't be drilled. Also many guys from this squad have played Barcelona in Spain, and got draw. I wouldn't give advantage to N-Ireland cause of fans. But looking your rooster, yes it looks impressive comparing to ours. However, still hoping to the best. Good luck N-Ireland!

Have no idea about counting assistance points to Kolinko, but this is not the first time he passes through all pitch for Verpakovskis. Approxamitely identical situation was in match against Turkey when Maris scored 2nd goal.

im sure you guys will agree that the ref was terrible tonight, he turned the second half into a basketball style non contact game, im surprised the players wern't saying "that's trippin man", truly terrible, the game didnt flow, you couldnt get back into it and we couldnt extend out lead.

Germans love shitting on the little guy
