Coach Jurijs Andrejevs has named two uncapped players in his 22-man Latvia squad for the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers against Iceland and Northern Ireland.
Defender Pavels Surnins and striker Kristaps Grebis, both of whom play for FHK Liepajas Metalurgs, have impressed Andrejevs with their performances in the Latvian league. However, Skonto FC midfielder Viktors Morozs misses out through injury while FC Shinnik Yaroslavl winger Andrejs Rubins is out for at least two months having undergone knee surgery at his club.
Better news is that Anorthosis Famagusta FC forward Marians Pahars has returned to full fitness and is ready to play. Latvia, who opened their campaign with a home defeat by Sweden, entertain Iceland in Riga on 7 October before playing Northern Ireland in Belfast four days later.
