Italia - Lithuania [Euro 08 Qual. 02/09/06]

Italia - Lithuania

Since Italia last friendlie was a squad without WC champions, Lithuania will play Italia first game after that they were crowned champions of the world this summer. For sure Italians are willing to take that game seriously, and start their campaign with their new status with a win. Great atmosphere in perspect.

Tough game in perspect for Lithuania, but very interesting nonetheless. What should be Lithuania starting line-up for this game ? Any changes ? Retirement of players ? How do you rate your chances ?

It was a great draw for Lithuania: facing the World Champions in their first official match after beating France in Berlin. It will be almost impossible to get a win or draw but it should still be a great chance to get some worldwide recognition for Lithuanian football.

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

Goalkeepers
Žydrūnas Karčemarskas (Dinamo Moskva)
Mindaugas Malinauskas (FBK Kaunas)
Arvydas Kacinkevičius (Vėtra)

Defenders
Marius Stankevičius (Brescia)
Rolandas Džiaukštas (Saturn)
Andrius Skerla (Tomsk)
Gediminas Paulauskas (Ekranas)
Tomas Žvirgždauskas (Halmstads)
Irmantas Zelmikas (Tavrija Simferopol)
Darius Žutautas (Atlantas)

Midfielders
Deividas Česnauskis (Hearts)
Marius Žaliūkas (Hearts)
Saulius Mikoliūnas (Hearts)
Darius Miceika (Metalurgs)
Tomas Tamošauskas (Metalurgs)
Mindaugas Kalonas (Metalurgs)
Aidas Preikšaitis (Vėtra)
Andrius Gedgaudas (Atlantas)
Vitalijus Kavaliauskas (Ekranas)
Mantas Savėnas (Ekranas)

Strikers
Robertas Poškus (Dinamo Moskva)
Tomas Danilevičius (Livorno)
Edgaras Jankauskas (Hearts)
Tadas Labukas (Žalgiris)
Povilas Lukšys (Ekranas)

Few debuts, while D.Šemberas and E.Česnauskis are suspended. In recent interview manager said we need to attack more and score goals if we want to get something, cause not to concede against top teams is almost impossible.

With practically no chance of qualification we should target 3/4th place and any points from both World Cup finalists would look like a bonus.
Loss to Moldova after two wins against Poland and Albania brought back to Earth but hope dies last.

How did the Hearts boys do? I heard they had to put two defenders on Mikoliunas!

Congratulations, I hope you don't repeat it against Scotland though.

I saw the replay of the game today. Good show

Italy wasn't at their best and looked quite clueless and unmotivated but it's still a valuable result for Lithuania - drawing with World Champions in Italy.

Thanks and we WILL repeat it

Both Hearts players played quite good. Constantly annoyded the italian defenders. I just wish that Miko would improve his crossing a little more like Chesney did while at Hearts

There's a lot of things I wish Miko would improve on, like Chesney!

Btw Chesney made the assist for the goal.

Here's the link to the goal:

He played ok. Made a few mistakes defensively but was part of the move that made the goal. He made a pass to Chesnauskis who made the final pass.
