Estonia vs Macedonia on 16th August

The first EURO qualifying game.

Lots of question marks about this match as loads of injured players will miss this one: Teet Allas and Urmas Rooba from defense and Maksim Smirnov, Liivo Leetma & Taavi Rähn from midfield. Also Andres Oper will probably not be fit enough to play, at least no as a starter.

So it's actually a bit hard to predict the lineup. Maybe something like this:

-----------Viikmäe

Lindpere----Zahovaiko---Teever

-------Reim---Dmitrijev

Klavan--Stepanov--Piiroja--Jääger

------------Kotenko

The players called up are:

Goalkeepers

Artur KOTENKO (20.08.1981) - FC Levadia Tallinn 14/-
Mart POOM (03.02.1972) – Arsenal FC (ENG) 104/-

Defenders

Alo BÄRENGRUB (12.02.1984) - FC Flora Tallinn 3/-
Enar JÄÄGER (18.11.1984) - Torpedo Moskva (RUS) 36/-
Dmitri KRUGLOV (24.05.1984) – Kuban Krasnodar (RUS) 18/1
Raio PIIROJA (11.07.1979) - Fredrikstad FK (NOR) 61/4
Andrei STEPANOV (16.03.1979) - Torpedo Moskva (RUS) 60/1
Tihhon ŠIŠOV (11.02.1983) - FC Levadia Tallinn 2/-

Midfielders

Aleksandr DMITRIJEV (18.02.1982) - FC Levadia Tallinn 10/-
Kert HAAVISTU (18.01.1980) - FC TVMK Tallinn 44/-
Ragnar KLAVAN (30.10.1985) - Heracles Almelo (NED) 27/1
Joel LINDPERE (05.10.1981) – FC Flora Tallinn 44/4
Martin REIM (14.05.1971) - FC Flora Tallinn 147/14
Ott REINUMÄE (20.04.1984) – FC Flora Tallinn 25/-
Andrei SIDORENKOV (12.02.1984) - FC Flora Tallinn 2/-
Sergei TEREHHOV (18.04.1975) - Šinnik Jaroslavl (RUS) 85/5
Konstantin VASSILJEV (16.08.1984) – FC Levadia Tallinn 1/-

Forwards

Vladislav GUSSEV (26.08.1986) – FC TVMK Tallinn 1/-
Tarmo NEEMELO (10.02.1982) – FC TVMK Tallinn 10/1
Andres OPER (07.11.1977) – Roda J.C. (NED) 99/29
Vjatšeslav ZAHOVAIKO (29.12.1981) – FC Flora Tallinn 29/4
Ingemar TEEVER (24.02.1983) – Östers IF (SWE) 20/4
Kristen VIIKMÄE (10.02.1979) – Gefle IF (SWE) 100/14

It's confirmed that Oper is out of this match. Also it's likely that Poom will start in goal instead of Kotenko. It'll be a great comeback for him, last time he started for our NT in home match was about two years ago.

Also our coach Jelle Goes has said that he expects Estonia to collect at least as many points in the coming qualification campaign as in the WC2006 qualifying games. That's 17 points then. Quite optimistic I must say

I don't think it's broadcasted live via the internet, at least it hasn't been so in the past with Estonian NT games.

haven't seen such a bad game from our side for a while now.
midfield and attack was almost nonexistent and defense just kicked the ball up-field.

Estonia has no midfield..they all come from Flora Tallin....you need players in Europe. That lineup looks dreadful.

Main blame goes to Goes (hey that rhymes ...or whatever) because he failed to field a decent lineup. As soon as I saw who he sent out as our midfield I knew we will lose.

-------------Viikmäe

--------------Lindpere

Sidorenkov--Klavan--Dmitrijev---Terehhov

Kruglov---Piiroja----Stepanov---Jääger

---------------Poom

Seriously that lineup is crazy. This midfield has never played together before and fact is that guys like Sidorenkov and Terehhov (on his current form) have no place in our starting lineup. He should have fielded either Teever or Neemelo from the start, it might have been more risky but it would have probably worked out better.

Of course the fact that we missed two of our maybe most important players Oper and Reim also had a lot to do with the result but still this match was unbelivably bad. We were outclassed throughout the match and defensively it was one of the worst matches in recent years (the defense line actually did more or less okay but received litte support from midfield who didn't pressure Macedonians enough and also completely lost possession). Macedonia looked like a good team, their short passing game in attack was very quick and precise...they took a deserved win....but still - our last year's squad could have won or at least drawn this game. But this what we showed today was very poor and not a good way to start this qualification campaign. Hopefully we can fied a stronger team against Israel and maybe our coach learned a thing or two from this defeat too.

i'd like to see Kink and Purje in the NT. maybe not in a ECQ game, but at least in a friendly.
don't understand why Klavan was put in the middle. he has shown before that he can't play there.
