As I expected, Ekranas won't go to CIS Cup.

Are you sure Ekranas is not going to participate in the tournament?
It would be pity.

Yes, manager confirmed that few days ago. Mainly, he fears of injuries on artificial grass and players lured by Russian clubs.

Kaunas confirmed they will enter competition if Ekranas doesn't.

Take my hat off to Kaunas then.
We should keep this tournament as it's unique.
Would never be able to get the competition back once we get it lost.

Lithuania isn't actually a CIS country. This tournament maybe means something to Russia, Ukraine and Belarus who seems to missing good old soviet days. For us it's not interesting at all. Cope with that, finally.
And unique was lost when clubs (mainly Ukraine and Russia) started to field reserve teams.

But as Baltic clubs - sorry - quite f... up in UEFA tournaments, it's a welcome waste of time. The Scandinavians won't let them compete in their Royal League, so why not facing the other neighbours? To hell with politics...

/\ why not make our own cup? the four best of every country and held in the Skonto hall in Riga.
though the CIS cup is a stronger tournament ofcourse.

Not bad idea, but look at Baltic Cup - Estonians don't play, Lithuania and Latvia field only domestic league players. Would be hard to keep intrigue on new one too.

Besides, we usually do play Latvian clubs in friendlies when preparing for new campaign in spring.
And there is tournament Palangos Juze, held in Palanga from 1996, where few teams from Latvia and Russia appear. Though in last few years Metalurgs, Ventspils and Baltika sent their reserves there.
