Teams: Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine, Barcelona
Now that we finally know which teams will be participating in the new season, I decided to write a new thread for the forthcoming 2013/2014 UPL season.
After a nonsensical period where Kryvbas sadly ceased to exist, Stal Alchevsk withdrew and where really Bukovyna should have actually been offered the spare UPL place, both Hoverla and Metalurg Zaporizhya maintain their places despite both being relegated (embarrassingly in Metalurg's case).
Sevastopol are therefore the only newcomers as champions of the Persha Liga. It's a club really on the rise at the moment. A new 25,000 seater stadium is planned to be constructed and completed in 2017. The Crimean club have a great fan-base and they always filled their 5,800 capacity stadium in the Persha Liga.
Sevastopol have got a good group of skillful players and play good passing football. Key players last season included Artur Karnoza, Volodymyr Tanchyk and Sergiy Kuznetsov, but they've made lots of signings in preparation, including 3 from Arsenal last winter with Alexandr Kovpak amongst them, as well as 3 loanees from Shakhtar.
Elsewhere, apart from Dynamo and Shakhtar, Arsenal and Chornomorets have been the busiest clubs. Of course, the mid-table clubs have taken all the players of Kryvbas in 2012/2013.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks set to leave. He hasn't returned for Shakhtar training and Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool are both interested. Shakhtar have been splashing the cash a lot recently. It'll be interesting to see how these new Brazilians fit in, particularly Wellington the new striker.
Metalist have signed one Brazilian for about £4.4m while Dnipro look set to sign Sergiy Polytilo from Chornomorets.
