Road to Brazil 2014

Lets begin by discussing Ukraine's prospects in this very tough group. If Blokhin gets Ukraine to Brazil, I will be very impressed, but I still don't like the guy.

The team going to London has two forwards :rollani:

Goalkeepers: Andriy Dykan (Spartak Moskva, Russia), Andriy Piatov (Shakhtar), Maxym Koval (Dynamo).

Defenders: Viacheslav Shevchuk, Olexander Kucher, Yaroslav Rakytsky (all -Shakhtar), Taras Mykhalyk, Yevhen Khacheridi (both - Dynamo), Vitaliy Mandziuk (Dnipro), Bohdan Butko (Illichivets), Yevhen Selin (Vorskla).

Midfielders: Oleh Husiev, Denys Harmash, Andriy Yarmolenko (all - Dynamo), Yevhen Konoplianka, Ruslan Rotan (both - Dnipro), Serhiy Nazarenko (Tavria), Roman Bezus (Vorskla), Taras Stepanenko (Shakhtar), Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (Bayern, Germany).

Forwards: Roman Zozulia (Dnipro), Marco Devic (Shakhtar).

Good to see Bezus selected, but Aliev is out? He is probably enjoying his best form since the good old Lokomotiv days...

Probably should also note that Shovkovsky retired from international football. Makes sense at 37 with the injury troubles that he has been having. With Koval coming up, Pyatov there, as well as Dikan in some great form, it would be hard to see him getting a callup these qualifiers anyway.

One of Ukraine's all-time greats, and although his form dropped after the drinking and the divorce, he was still one of Europe's best in his prime. 92 caps, the 3 highest capped player for the UNT after Tymo and Sheva.

Thanks for all the years of hard service Sasho!

Yarmolenko, Konoplyanka and Bezus could probably all count as forwards though couldn't they? Aliev in current form should definitely be there as you say.

Thankfully for Ukraine there's now no Milevskiy, the man who's forgotten how to sprint, in the squad!

Are you suggesting he actually sprinted before?

Well, he could dribble pretty well at one point - during his 17 goal UPL season, so a little bit now and then. I take your point, but now he's even slower and much worse

Konoplyanka

Ukraine go in leading at half time. Lets see what happens.

Georgia was so close to taking points of Spain btw, with a few of our boys in the UPL playing well

England-Ukraine 1-1,england level with 5 min to go from penalty.

Konoplyanka mvp.

great goal, good game, kacheridi is so dumb.

Fair result but with a england squad with key players injuried this was ukraine best chance to get a win there, england should top the group in the end.

and will shakhtar, dynamo, zenit or anzhi let konoplyanka go to western europe?will anyone of these will try to buy him?

can not believe dynamo spend 23 millions on velso, raffael and marco ruben, pathetic.

That penalty was unlucky, but it was still a panalty. How was he supposed to get his arm out of the way? Its okay, and on the balance of play it was deserved.

Pyatov with a massive save from Johnson's strike, also Cleverly should've scored in the first half.

Yarmolenko and Konoplyanka are obviously class. There is a good balance in the team, maybe we are lacking a real target man forward, but maybe Blokhin can utilize someone.

kleber, your Portugese boy has been a good signing for Kyiv. Raffael and Ruben...not so much. I don't think Konoplyanka with go to either Shakhtar or Dynamo. (ppl said the same thing about Devic leaving Metalist though). Maybe Russia, maybe England.

Blokhin did a Semin there by dropping the team really deep, which ultimately was costly, so there were greater errors than Khacheridi's hand-ball. Overall he was good. Him and Rakitskiy are both good passers with composure which helps a lot.

Still, Ukraine did well. Husyev showed why he should stay at right back, the midfield played well with Garmash showing why he'll probably be a national regular for a long time.

Konoplyanka was obviously man of the match. Question is who'll pay 20m+?

I don't understand Kleber's criticism of Veloso either..

awful performance,barely create any chances.

konoplyanka and yarmolenko are the only ones who can do something different the rest oh well.

and having Bal as head coach doesn't help either.

No Rakitskiy either - really big loss as he makes a big difference. Bad team selection as well with Seleznyov and Devic together. Ukraine are a good team when all the best players are playing, but after that...

However, all's not quite completely lost but a win in Poland is probably needed.
