UPL 2010/2011 Season

So the season begins in the way the 2009/10 season finished - Shakhtar on top form. The claim the Super Cup by destroying Tavria, the Ukrainian Cup winners by a score of 7:1. Perhaps more impressively, it was only 2:1 in favour of the miners at half time, after Freschuk's equalizer was cancelled out by Jadson. The samba began after the half however, with Adriano & Hladkyi getting 2 goals each.

Samba? That was more like the Germans.
Obviously, they took the joy of tearing Argentinians apart, or any team with a bunch of sorry defenders.

Here are the highlights of the game:

Tavria's offside trap...not working so well. Very nice goals by Hladkyi - I hope the guy plays a lot this season.

Yea brilliantly taken goal from him. Isn't he left footed? wow...

Anybody know how Stepanenko played?

I was in Ukraine this time last year and watched the Cup my last night there. Why did UPL start 1 week earlier this year, especially a World Cup year?

Is it just me or is Zorya's new logo virtually identical to Shakhtar's?

Probably better to start the season a week early, teams will be in better shape when the European season begins.

Round 1:

Dnipro v. Karpaty the pick of the games obviously.

I didn't know about this - seems promising:

from ukesoccer.net -

Today FFU preseident Hryhoriy Surkis announced that famous former Italian and International referee Pierluigi Collina accepted a position to oversee Ukrainian referees. The contract was signed for 2 years. On July 4th Collina also became the head of UEFA referees.

Perhaps one of the greatest distinctions of Collina's career was earning the hatred of Luciano Moggi, the Juventus official and chief instigator of the 2006 Italian football scandal. Collina was one of the referees that Moggi attempted to have punished for decisions that Collina made against Juventus. In an intercepted phone call, Moggi claimed that Collina and his colleague Roberto Rosetti were too "objective" and should be "punished" for it. Nevertheless, he and Rosetti were the few referees whose reputations remained unscathed from the scandal, a testimony of their integrity.

GO KRYVBASS!

Too bad they dont have Kanibalosvky, Lyopa and Moroyuk anymore. But Maximov got half his Obolon' squad back, plus a few extra guys on loan. Dont see why he can't do the same job he did with Obolon which was top 8 in the 1st half of the year. I'm calling it, Kryvbass, top 8.

Maximov new Dynamo coach after they get knocked out of UCL qualies and keep looking mediocre in the league?

Big win for Dnipro today, needed to start the season this way this should be our best season ever

Didn't get up in time to watch it. Couldn't stop watching Australian Rules Football on ESPN2 last night after coming back from the bars. Such a cool sport, like rugby, NFL and soccer all in one

So the results after Round 1:

9 июля

Заря 0:0 Севастополь
Арсенал 1:0 Металлург (Запорожье)
Ильичевец 1:1 Металлург (Донецк)
Оболонь 2:2 Динамо

10 июля

Волынь 0:4 Ворскла
Таврия 0:1 Металлист
Днепр 1:0 Карпаты
Шахтер 2:0 Кривбасс

Dynamo might struggle to finish 2nd this year, Volyn looked terrible at home, not even game fit.

Congratulations to Vasya Sachko who got his 100th & 101st top flight goal today.

Henrik Mkhitaryan is the youngest captain in Metalurh's history at the age of 21. I hope he's gonna make a great season in UPL.

What do you think about Metadon this year ? And Henrik ? I don't realize how Henrik is known in your championship ..

Go Armenia, GO MINASYAN

Olympique de Marseille in my heart for ever

"I've got an erection !!" @ Me after Slovakia-Armenia 0-4 And I enjoyed !

He is very highly rated in Ukraine kartoch One of the most exciting players to watch in the UPL for sure. I wished he actually played for a team ppl liked and enjoyed following. He had a massive season last year, so I expect more of the same from him since Metadon have kept the same core of players/coach etc.

Took a total dive today vs. Obolon to get the PK 3-0 win today for Metadon.

I think Metalurh D will be in the top half, but they are no longer a European place-worthy team. They are unlikely to take points from the top 4 (Dnipro, Metalist, Dynamo, Shakhtar) and you have the Tavria's Karpaty's etc who will push them all the way.

Mihtaryan is a quality young player. Broke into the team last year due to a crazy barrage of injuries that hit the team early in the year. He was one of their top scorers but he was not a regular starter once every got healthy im i recall correctly. Glad to see him make captain.

Metadon also has a nice young Ukr trio to look out for. Godin/Priyma/Moroyuk.

You can see highlight at football.ua but its in UKr.

I usually use those sites for goals or highlights:
http://video.ua-football.com/category/premier-league
http://football.ua/news/archive/video.html

Also you could watch most of direct translations of ukrainian league matches here:
http://footballua.tv/ua/online/
But I am not sure whether this site is accessible outside Ukraine.

If you does know cyrillic you could use the google translator.

Yeah - all their (Vorskla's) good work in the 1st Round undone at home.

Dynamo cannot finish, having said that Shevchenko was everywhere today - looked great, running down both flanks and through the middle - the defenders were afraid of him, backed off and gave him way too much space. 2-1 ensured Gazaeev had a micro heart attack for half the game. Europa League team for sure this year. Sadly.
